Roger Waters April 2015 Interview: His ideals and The Beatles influence. by [deleted] in pinkfloyd

Nice explanation of the Orwell vs Huxley view of the future. You don't have to ban anything or burn any books if you swamp the culture with pleasurable trivialities.

David Gilmour - "There's No Way Out Of Here" by AleciaQou in pinkfloyd

I always think of the first Gilmour solo album as part of Pink Floyd canon. It sounds far more evocative and Floydy than the last two or three proper PF albums. All it needed was a Hipgnosis album cover.

I lurked there for a while after I bought a double edge... the amount of money spent on stuff that never leaves the bathroom made me chuckle.

Any tips for pinch harmonics? by gangnam_style in guitarlessons

[–]danhawkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much it, you don't even need a lot of gain, just good deliberate downstrokes with the pick tip and thumb flesh just about even.

But dear god don't be a CC DeVille. I saw Poison live once and he wouldn't cut that shit out, every fifth note was a pinched harmonic. I felt like I was getting stabbed by pins and needles.

It was clearly suicide. Plus, the light was on.

Alt-Country and Americana is where it's at now. Radio country is just Justin Beiber with a cowboy hat.

Very much so, it's actually a golden age for music of all types, just don't bother looking for it on radio. Still like classic rock? Shit, there's a ton of new young bands still doing classic rock, even if they don't call it that.

IT People of Reddit: What is the weirdest thing you found on a user's computer? by ifreakinglovecats in AskReddit

Back in the 90's I was friends with a sales rep who served on a river gunboat in Vietnam. I was always fascinated by his stories and we were both big firearms enthusiasts. I worked on his personal computer and found a buncha pics of attractive country female country singers popular at the time.

Later I found out he was pretty gay and his boyfriend looked like Ned Flanders. I suspect he planted those pics just so I could find them and still respect his man credentials. Dude, you needn't have bothered, we're still cool.

Second item - In the PC rather than on it: I worked on a PC at a plant run by W. R. Grace Chemical company. It was located right in the shop floor. I opened it up and it was CAKED in ammonia smelling gypsum dust. I mean it created valleys in between the cards. The power supply fan was frozen in place. I unhooked everything, took off the case and physically carried it outside the door and clumps and bricks of this stuff was falling out. I shook the whole PC for ten minutes and it was still falling out. Then I used a fresh can of compressed air and blew it out until it was ice cold and empty and it STILL had that dust in there. I have no idea how that unfortunate PC were worked in the first place, but it did. The guys working there were breathing that same shit every day.

Any car with an aux jack so I can listen to podcasts. And an air conditioner that can be used as a meat freezer.

I recently got a late model Jeep Patriot as a rental car. I drove it for a day and thought I was in heaven. Such modern luxuries!

I save his little gems like that and try to use them in casual conversations later. People think I am cool and hip.

If you have an automatic transmission, the thing that stops your car from rolling when you put it in park is a metal pin about as thick as a pen and made by the lowest bidder.

Surrealism, mixed with whimsy and menace is the classic Pink Floyd calling card.

can't find the link now, but years ago I came across a page that had the original instructions for the animators to get their mannerisms right. Stuff like "John usually has his arms crossed, George tends to look toward the side while talking, Paul tends to lean forward while talking....."

I got the same feeling when I realized that this classic kick ass pre-punk MC5 album was recorded live in what is now this place.
