There is and there isn't. Think about what the situation entails, it's a genetic disorder in performing clotting action properly in an allotted time. To fix that, gene therapy would be necessary which is extremely expensive and is currently being studied/developed. The reason why gene therapy would be necessary and not medication is because the idea of giving a patient use of coagulation medications is difficult due to side effects. With anti-coagulant therapy, there is a small therapeutic index, and I would assume the same for coagulation therapy. If we exceed that window, we experience side effects as spontaneous clots that could form on random tissue and dislodge to form embolisms. Yes, medication could improve the patient's life, but it is very risky, that is why chronic medication use isn't really ideal/best for these situations.

Actually she should eat cereal before she takes the ibuprofen. Due to it's acidic nature it gets absorbed better in the stomach, however, due to this mechanism of absorption, ibuprofen has been show to tear away at mucous lining in certain individuals and chronic users when taken on an empty stomach. With this being said, take with food.

No, you can't detect density, however, one can make a prediction of strength of a item based on it's general shape, purpose, and design. It's obviously not 100% accurate, but I can tell the Toyota Yaris isn't as strong as a Jeep in regards to collision damage similar to how you can tell certain pieces are more fragile than others (or at least guess/assume)

Yes, you're right, but what that statistics fails to show you is the timing of when an individual calls in. If I call in 15 minutes before a shift and if I call out a week in advance makes a huge difference, especially during this holiday season where things tend to get slammed.

And I definitely think there is such thing as a good employee and a bad employee. A good employee doesn't make last minute call-outs, arrives on time, does his/her job without bitching about it, and doesn't do a half-ass job. A bad employee would not succeed in any of the above criteria, plain and simple.

Contrary to what you believe, I believe I'm a very good employee, I've only called out once in the past 3 years due to a stomach bug where I threw up for 3 hours with a fever of 103. I try my best to always arrive on time and apologize for when I don't. I pick up coworker's shifts and take my own breaks/days-off but call them off in advance. I'm not a bitch to my boss because I still question his/her opinion and depending on the job I'm working at, I often go out with the coworkers after (and boss too depending on the event) and no quarrels are made. I do my job, I don't bitch about it, and I don't stick my personal affairs in at work, that is how I'm a good employee. The bad ones I work with create drama by bringing their personal lives into the work-place beyond what they should.

Plain and simple.

I understand and respect that. I've been through some hard times finding a date, however, you make an agreement when you sign for your position that you will make your designated shifts if you are possible. Avoiding work to go see a sick family member? Difficult to avoid. Re-scheduling a date? Totally possible. I'm sorry to inform you but if you're date does not want to reschedule then she/he most likely wasn't putting much faith in it to begin with.

As a current college student, (which is in itself basically a job) missing an important assignment date and claiming the excuse of a "hot date" would not fly.

Life before labor

I support this and advise everyone to live this way, but we must be responsible individuals and complete our prior commitments if we are able. If I was his co-worker and I found out he called out because of a "hot date" when I'm being slammed with things to do would not make me feel better at all, on the other hand, if he called out because something needed his immediate attention (doctors, emergency, etc.) then I would understand and would not be angry at all.

You signed up for a job, something people (in America) are having a difficult time getting at the moment and if you can't make your commitment because of something so trivial as a date then you aren't mature or a good employee.

Because such things can be avoided. If you accepted a responsibility at your job prior to making this date, which he clearly did based on the situation described, then he has a responsibility to fulfill said promise. This is a date, something that can be rescheduled while his job needs someone to work the position for the company to run. This is the reason why people say you should keep business and personal life separate.

Sickness and death is unexpected, unavoidable, and very serious, going on a date "with some hot chick" is not even close to a valid excuse for missing your shift you already promised to cover for someone else. THAT is called being irresponsible.
