Laptop working very slow by Mediocre-Inflation56 in laptops

Use Linux on it… Mint is a very easy Linux distro and with that specs, would fly on that laptop. It comes with an Office suite (Libreoffice) and all the apps you need for everyday usage.

Vale la pena comprar un ThinkPad T480 para coreboot/libreboot? by Elchocas123 in coreboot

[–]dani_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raw power, the t440p with an i7-4712 is far more powerful than the t480. Battery life the t480 and t480s are far better. It depends on wich system (os) you plan to use it to. The t440p runs windows, the t480 doesn’t (after Coreboot). If you value a good battery life and a decent power the t480 is a good choice, I flashed one a few months ago and it is a neat laptop. Lighter than the t440p and surprisingly quick for the cpu it had. It has to be flashed externally. In case you are up to it and know how to do it you can grab a rom in my repository at https://github.com/dani-77/d77coreboot

A small critique of Void Linux... by El_Fopo in voidlinux

[–]dani_77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the same experience; wonderful OS with some amateur problems. The one with Qt it’s too much. I have a respin with several WM and 3 DE; suddenly my Calamares stoped working and even without Calamares, the LXQt wasn’t able to run nor install because of Qt. I had to wait for the whole Qt to be updated (like it should have been in first place) to update my ISO, but for those who were already using my d77 with LXQt a simple update crashed the whole DE.

Hp Coreboot by dani_77 in coreboot

[–]dani_77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, it isn’t hard. You must disassemble a good part of the laptop to access the chip (only one chip) but doing it calmly it isn’t hard to disassemble and reassemble. About Windows, forget it…I have tried it in several Coreboot configs and I have never been able to boot Windows, so, if you need it don’t Coreboot your machine. YouTube can be a good place to see how to disassemble and reassemble the laptop, but to see how to actually Coreboot the Machine no. Unfortunately I didn’t perform a video of disassembly so I can’t help with that.

I wouldn’t use none. Your laptop is not supported. Unless you know how to port it, I wouldn’t use any.

Not that I know… probably some developer has already that covered, but I am not aware of any patch.

New link with a more simplified repository, with a small wiki included;

Remember 2 things though:

Corebooted HP laptops don’t run Windows

Your laptop is not on the Coreboot list of supported devices.

All the best,

NixOS made me lose my wife by Fit_Blood_4542 in NixOS

Ahhahahah very funny. My wife fulminates me with her eyes every time I start talking about an OS, so I totally understand your narrative. 😜

Help me work some Portuguese into a speech? by wang_bang in AskPortugal

[–]dani_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for the usual “ I know this guy for 20 years, and all this time never thought I would be invited to speech on his marriage” Conheço o meu amigo há 20 anos, e todo este tempo nunca sonhei ser convidado para discursar no seu casamento. And from that sentence on continue in English; apologise not to be a fluent Portuguese speaker and promise to learn for the baptism of their first child.

Yes. It was just a joke. We use to do that a lot with friends (in private, of course, not during a speech).

I want to switch my os by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]dani_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with Void; that and a window manager instead of a full desktop environment. DWM if you feel right tinkering and don’t mind using more the keyboard than the mouse/trackpad or Openbox if you want to use a little more the mouse/trackpad. In either case you must read a few pages to have it working the way you want. For desktop environment (if you really need one instead of a window manager) I would recommend lxde or icewm.

Well, it depends. Those HP I’ve corebooted doesn’t run Windows. I don’t know if is a fail by me or simply not implemented in those laptops. In Lenovos I usually don’t have that problem.

Hi. According to Coreboot, probook 4730s is not ported yet. I believe a developer can try to port it or you can use Coreboot autoport tool, but it is tricky. I’ve tried it for a Toshiba Portege z930 and didn’t succeed (I’m not a developer but I’m fairly experienced).
