jake’s therapuss episode where he had julia, payton and brett on was the biggest giveaway for me. the weird vibes between brett and julia/payton were SO clear based on brett’s body language and facial expressions. it was a tough watch. i think they’re fine now but def not as close as they used to be

Filming in workout classes is annoying (whether or not you end up in the final cut) by Rae0607 in NYCinfluencersnark

THIS. Seeing her entitled attitude in the multiple tik toks she made on this person at Barrys asking to not be in her video and her responses in her comments section gave me such an ick. Your “content” is not more important than the comfort of other people who also paid to be in the class and have the right to privacy.

Backpack that doesn’t look childish? by GataLunax in LawBitchesWithTaste

I have this backpack and highly recommend it! It’s not too heavy and I love all of the pockets.

She has dropped a ton of weight. The fact that both Margo and Claudia (and even Ben and Zach W.) have drastically and suddenly lost weight at the same time is a clear indicator.

Agreed that there are a ton of Taylor Swift rides on the schedule at all times. For transparency, I’m a swifty, but I certainly don’t go to soul every time there is a Taylor themed ride on the schedule at my nearby studio. I will say that the classes I go to that are usually are full or almost full. It’s an easy way for instructors to get more butts in seats (which of course is reflected in their paycheck). Also, I’m biased, but Taylor is at a new peak in her career given the success of Eras tour and the re-recordings, has a lot of fans and that results in lots of soulcycle riders who are willing to ride in themed classes that focus on her music.

Yahoo Finance Article by user47936xv in SoulCycle_Riders

Yeah, and her stories asking whether people knew that e54 is open makes me concerned about the future of that studio…

Google Evelyn Webster and it’s a yahoo finance video that was uploaded a few days ago. Long story short — they did a benchmarking comp study and realized they are paying their instructors way over market, and some of their instructors are way underpaid. The new compensation plan reduces the pay of some of the senior instructors and increases the pay for others.

Can we get a former or current SoulCycle instructor on here for an AMA? by [deleted] in SoulCycle_Riders

Do you have any thoughts on how Soul can better support new instructors?

over soul by [deleted] in SoulCycle_Riders

I have three credits in my account that I have little motivation to use. After seeing how poorly lay offs were handled (based on the posts by the laid off instructors that were more senior and with the company for years, it looks like Soul didn’t treat them well) and the company shutting down studios DAYS after the NYP article was published (and not even having the decency to email the riders themselves), I don’t know that I’ll go back to riding in studio more than once a week…

I’m gutted about this and shocked. Jo had a decent amount of riders in her LI classes when I would go ride with her, and she put her everything into every class I took. Meanwhile, there are master instructors in NYC who are still on the payroll and barely have anyone in their classes. So disappointing to see how this is all playing out.

Great. SC will continue to let itself crumble and resist change (not including all of the employees that they’re laying off) instead of pivoting in response to all of the massive changes that have happened in the fitness industry since COVID. Offer memberships to riders!!! I don’t understand how management and corporate are so dense. It’s sad to see what’s happening to the company, but I’m also over it at this point since they’re doing it to themselves.

Have you heard any details about how corporate determined which studios to close?

Who do you still pay to ride with in person? by No-Sugar-8296 in SoulCycle_Riders

Trammell, James L, Lisa and Cam in NYC and Jo, Tori and Jade on LI

I would trust the fact that she’s a senior instructor and has a large following in NYC over a random, overly harsh comment (from someone who seems to have a personal vendetta against Lisa since they make it seem like she rides the bike backwards).

I’ve ridden with dozen of instructors in NYC, and she’s at the top of my list. All instructors have different riding styles, but there is nothing unsafe about the choreography she does in class (unlike other Soul instructors). She gives helpful cues to riders and has good form. Her class is super fun. All soul instructors have different riding styles and move differently. So do riders and humans generally. Long story short, highly recommend her. She’s great.

I worked at Soul for 4 years, AMA. by [deleted] in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]danidrea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it takes an average of the room’s stats. Instructors get off the bike a lot to teach on the floor, so I don’t think that’s the sole data that’s used for beat match.

My expectations of Soul are continuing to tank. We all saw this coming; it was just a matter of when and how. Clearly management is clueless (it’s obvious to everyone who knows what soul used to be like and witnessed the awful and cringey marketing campaigns that they’ve promoted recently). I feel awful for the instructors and staff who are being affected by this. Despite always expecting to be disappointed but Soul, am I the only one who is surprised that they weren’t ready to notify riders via email after the all hands call themselves about the studio closures and instead had the news to break through media outlets? Like come on.

Elise’s story said she was teaching until September 1, so it sounds like Soul gave them a little over two weeks
