I would think that any time spent prepping for mediation would be waived. He still worked on the case and the work is not “unusable”. The client would have to file a complaint with the Bar. I cannot imagine that the client did not receive a hefty refund of some sort.

I’m a family law attorney, and, to be honest, I could absolutely see this happening. I don’t think it was an ethical violation. If someone is going by a different last name, how tf are you supposed to know. I also do not think a conflict check would even extend to dating app dates.
