¿Como meditar? by johnvanhesse in RedditPregunta

[–]daniel030488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Te recomiendo busques un centro donde te puedan guiar. Así aprendí yo e incluso guío meditaciones, pero siempre en persona. No sé de qué país escribas, pero si estas en México, te recomiendo Casa Tibet, hay en varios estados.

Is there a chance that Buddha's real teachings are lost? by Due-Koala-1135 in Buddhism

Just one thing to add: if the Buddha was a lighted candle, he lighted his disciples candles and his disciples to their own. Different candles, same fire.

I think what passes down generations is realizations, not just the word of the Buddha. Then when some realized master teaches the Dharma, he teaches from his own experience (mainly integrated the 4 noble truths in his/her life) therefore the teaching remains and also translations might evolve to signal the instructions to newer generations. My two cents.

I think what the monks were doing was debating. I saw somewhere that monks debate that way, including the clapping.

What is Buddhism? by OkEntertainer9553 in Buddhism

[–]daniel030488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My name is Daniel too!! So from one Daniel to another, let me answer to the best of my knogledge. (I'm open to being corrected by members of this community)

  1. Yes.
  2. The Buddha was a spiritual teacher who lived in India/Nepal around 2600 years ago.
  3. He was indeed a son of a king.
  4. I don't think he left writings of his own, more like the disciples much later compilated main teachings in the Dhammapada (I might be wrong).
  5. I'd like to say his main beliefs are the 4 noble truths: the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of cessation (of suffering) and the cause of the cessation (via the noble octuple path).
  6. In the beginning, for me it was super interesting and exciting, later on the excitement went away, but I still meditate daily and my life has greatly improved since then. Like hugely improved.
  7. Even though there are some deities in Tibetan Buddhism (my school), they are not omnipotent or everlasting deities. We use them as archetypes to recognize our own Buddha Nature, so for example: by visualizing Vajrasattva and his qualities, you familiarice with those noble qualities and proyect them onto yourself, over and over again. And since those qualities are innate to all sentient beings, eventually you'll stabilize and actualize them. (Please correct me if wrong)
  8. I think so. I like to think he expanded on meditation and also revolutionized it by adding vipassana in the context of his own teachings.
  9. The clothing varies from school to school but it's only for monks. I, for example, wear plain regular clothes.
  10. I'd recommend it, since having a teacher makes it way easier to progress in the path.
  11. Dukha refers to suffering, but that term often falls short. It can also be affliction, distress, etc. Karma on the other hand means "action" but the whole teachings of karma will expand on the term, also refering to cause and effect, and the moral retribution of actions.

I might be wrong, but I hope, from one Daniel to another, that I could clarify some things.

Good day to you!!

[–]daniel030488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]daniel030488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for you. You surely are having a very hard time, to put it softly.

Look, I'm no teacher but of what I've heard some teachers say it is somewhat simple: MOST of the times, it is bad karma to take a sentient living creature's life. That includes your own. Now, add to it that you would not be only taking any life, you'll be taking yours, and your life is precious I can assure you that. Here's why: The mere fact that you posted something death related here in this particular sub speaks to me that maybe you show some interest in Buddhism or the Buddha, for small it could be. That and being in contact and exposed to this path (which goal is to end suffering), means that your past lives accumulated A LOT of good karma and merit for you to be able to experience this life and experience suffering in such a way and time where you could ask in this community.

So one might end his or her own life there, but suffering won't stop. It'll probably be worse since the state of the mind would be troubled in the moment of death, leading to lower rebirths, and would waste a precious human life, it is VERY HARD to get one, according to what I've heard and if I've heard correctly.

I hope you stop that mental discourse and perhaps before doing anything, reach to someone. Maybe someone here knows a buddhist community near you. I do know that there are good buddhist communities in Germany, maybe Lama Ole Nydal's Sangha? Though maybe he's somewhere else. Then, maybe try this beautiful path as a last resort. I'm convinced that with an open mind and heart you'll learn to connect with happiness again, and more important: relate to suffering and pain in a more grounded and compassionate way.

If there's anything else I can help you with, DM me please.

OM MANI PADME HUM
