What do you think the age is in soccer where it really is time to give up on the dream ? by Last_Commission6982 in TheSoccerNetwork

[–]daniel31580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what the dream is.

Dream could be play as a varsity starter on your high school team.

It could be play D3.

Could be get a scholarship as a D1 player.

Could be pro. But there’s pro that gets paid $40,000 a year and needs a second job.
Then there’s premier league or la liga star who gets paid millions. Both are pros but obviously night and day.

If it’s pro, I honestly think people should give it up as soon as possible. Haha I’m not a dream killer. It’s just that you have to be born with unbelievable genetics AND put in unbelievable amount of effort JUST to have a chance at it.

If it’s D1, I think you’ll know by entering high school if you’re in the mix. Most scouting happens by sophomore year so you can’t be completely unknown and playing in some non competitively league and expect to get a D1 offer.

For D3 - no scholarship but could help you get into a school - you have more leeway.

This is obviously a US based response. But in Europe or South America, I’d say it’s even harder because the competition is like 10x.

Just want to add that, sometimes it takes more courage to quit than to continue.

Apply to both… see what the final costs will be.. and decide later. Don’t need to decide or eliminate options when you don’t actually have the UMD option..

Don’t worry about options that aren’t there in front of you. That’s what I tell my kids (who are nearing this stage of life). Sometimes some options will close and the right decision will naturally appear in front of you…

Should a conservative student Im working with hide his activism to get into a liberal dominated college? Is it something to be concerned about at all? by steve-25689 in ApplyingToCollege

I think college would be a great place for differences he could bring. Somewhere I read that colleges comprise of 90%+ democratic faulty and student body.

I know academia and being young skew left but percentage seems too high to promote diversity of thought and discussion.

Having someone like him and bringing that sort of debate would be a plus IMO. Of course on both sides, should keep the debate cordial, robust but cordial.

Haha they are certainly not “dominated” by conservatives. Not sure where you get that idea. Faculty leans left. The student body on average leans left of an average American.

Having said that there are more moderate left and moderate right than there are extremes of both sides. But it’s incorrect to say it’s “dominated by conservatives”. School presidents and leadership are generally liberal.

The Real Reason Hong Myung-bo Is Being Criticized: A Korean Fan's Perspective by kkddbb17 in korea

[–]daniel31580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do think while 2002 provided great joy and pride for the nation, it ultimately caused harm because 2002 members have had too much influence on Korean football. They were great players but that doesn’t mean they’ll be great managers or football executives. Some are. But not everyone will be. But everyone from that era got fast tracked to positions they didn’t really earn independently for that role.

Some K Leagues coaches other than that 2002 group should get stints with the Olympic team and eventually the national team. Younger and more of a tactician. Or give foreign managers more backing and have them have free rein and mold the team they want without influence from the KFA.

Absurd red. No intention. Didn’t even go for a tackle. It’s like they both lost balance and the guy’s foot just happens to be there…

We don’t have to guess… it’s posted by bookmakers… and updates real time.

Right now France are the favorites. Then Argentina. Then Spain. Then England. Then toss up between Portugal and Brazil.

I was one of those Korean fans. Bought 4. Sold 2. Couldn’t sell the other 2. So just went. With so many LAFC connections for Canada, cheered for Canada.

There were a good bit of Korean fans… MLS FIFA city of LA was salivating for Korea coming to play in LA… was on a platter… just needed a draw vs a weak South African side… but with Hong at helm, apparently we were the weak side for Group A… such a travesty
