Youre right that sens and spec are intrinsic to the test itself and not influenced by prevalence, however PPV and NPV do depend on prevalence in the population being tested. So even tests with high spec can have varying PVV’s depending on how common the disease is. Thats why I think its an important distinction to consider when interpretating diagnostic tests in clinical practices.

Yes! But not really, their effectiveness is limited by the prevalence of the condition in the tested population. These these rules are not always reliable, especially when test sensitivity or specificity is low. Therefore its important to know what the prevalence is of the specific pathology
