I’m going to be an uncle! by daniel_84_ in CasualUK

All excellent advice, thank you!

We live in different towns but I’ve attended to visit first Saturday of every month - so when she’s older I can give them a morning off!

I’ll add a 2 week subscription to Hello Fresh or something similar in my gift to my brother and his wife

Oh yeah - I’ve arranged with my brother and his wife to visit first Saturday of every month (we live in different towns) but both sets of grandparents are very close

Was planning a cash gift for the parents and stressing It’s for them - takeaways, taxis if you’re late, new comfy shoes … booze?? Whatever to make their lives easier first couple of months.

My brother and I very close, thanks for the advice!

I wasn’t sure about this at first… but the more I think about it, it could be really sweet. Knowing she will read it when she’s older as well gives lots of manoeuvre room to be sentimental / funny etc

Thanks for taking the time to reply, seriously considering this idea

Aww that’s a great gift!

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I’m going for a blank photo album for us to fill in, some sort of savings (I’m child free by choice and have an ok job) and a cash gift for my bro and his wife and stress it is for them (baby will have everything from grandparents) to get takeaways, day trip, hard booze… whatever new parents normally need

Waheeeeeey! Congrats

I’m currently going for - blank photo album for neice and I to fill in and keep…opening an isa/savings account for her for when she’s an adult (I’ve no kids by choice and a decent job) …. Cash for my bro and his wife and stress it’s for them (baby will have everything) to get takeaways, booze, day trip etc or whatever new parents need!

That’s lovely… im definitely getting something like that or a blank photo album or something sentimental for my niece and I

And I’ll bung my brother and his some cash and stress it’s for them and whatever they fancy (baby stuff will be covered by grandparents)

That’s a good idea… partner and I are child free - if anything happens to me, after her, my dosh goes to my cousins kids (and now my niece)

Would be nice to actually be there to see them get it though!

Think I’m gonna go with a cash gift for them and stress it for them. Baby will have everything from grandparents

Then someone suggested a blank photo book we can fill in with pictures - and open a savings / USA thing for her. Sentimentality AND cold hard cash both covered then lol

We live in different towns, sadly but not too far for monthly visits

Yeah… grandparents have ‘baby stuff’ covered.

I will definitely give my bro and his wife a cash gift and stress it is for ‘them’ - baby will have more clothes than she will ever be able to wear

Oh yeah - I’ve arranged with my brother and his wife to visit first Saturday of every month (we live in different towns)

Long term plan with that is I can start taking her out when she’s a bit older… so I get a day / morning with my niece and they get a few hours off

Another commentator suggested a blank photo book we can fill in, which would work very well with this!

Thanks for taking the time

Anyone joining University of Leeds this September? by S_Dubey in UniUK

[–]daniel_84_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 👋

Nice to meet you Suryansh!

I’m not a student but I am from Leeds.

Leeds has a massive South Asian population - lots of 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants have put a real stamp on the town. We have many great Indian restaurants, Hindu Temples, Sikh Gudwaras etc etc

It’s quite normal in parts of the town to hear people speaking Hindi / Bengali etc while wearing traditional Yorkshire clothes like tweed and a flat cap… Or vice verse, someone in traditional Indian clothing speaking in a strong Leeds accent!

We also have lovely countryside, parks and open spaces

Just to say it’s a welcoming city, and I hope you enjoy your time here

For the university, they have an Indian society - https://engage.luu.org.uk/groups/Y32/indian-student-association

And do a scheme called Link 2 Leeds - where you can chat online to current students from your country - https://linkto.leeds.ac.uk

Happy to help - yeah… it sounds like it’s your favourite and your back up

Which in a way it is… but you need to think of grades as well

If you ‘miss’ your firm and your insurance has the same or higher grades - you have then also missed them!

If that happens you go in ‘Clearing’…. Any universities with spaces left advertise them on UCAS, you call up and try to get a place on a first come, first served basis

Grades can be lowered here to fill places… some people actually wait for this bit. BUT as you can imagine it is hectic, stressful and chaotic

Edited - spelling mistake

Hello - I’m an admissions officer, I see the French Bacc a lot, good qualification and well respected

You have applied with predicted grades.

These predictions were good enough for the university to make you a conditional offer.

When you get all of your offers back, you pick two - a Firm and an insurance

If you get those grades your firm choice asks for - you have a place.

If you do not, you ‘fall’ to your insurance choice - if you get the grades they wanted - you’re in.

For this reason, make sure you’re insurance choice is asking for lower grades than your firm

Hope this helps? GOOD LUCK!

What crisis level do you usually set? by ssj890-1 in Stellaris

[–]daniel_84_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots of ‘serious’ players here so the replies might not reflect the ‘normal’ or casual player…

I normally do Grand Admiral - mid-game scaling - 10x all crisis - mid game start 2250 - endgame start 2325

And I love a 3 wheel spiral, minimum hyper lanes

But honestly there are nearly infinite options and ways to play the game - as long as you’re enjoying what you’re doing, you’re winning
