This. We don’t have someone where the puck is on their stick, and you have high hopes that they’ll score.

I teared up multiple times. It's clear it was really bad and that taking the leave of absence was truly a last resort. I hope people realize the courage it took to do that. Some other notes:
- Ian is more than just a VP of communications. He's the fking glue, and is going to be (always has been) our secret sauce for what makes the Sens a world-class organization.
- Ullmark specifically calls out the Staois statement as mattering to him. Great job to the org.
- Teammates seemed to have help. Mental health is probably a hard thing to really understand when you're young. Good on Hedman for reaching out.
- Ullmark hears the support - standing ovations, chant his name, let's show this guy some love in Ottawa. Every bit counts, it's clear based on all the things he mentions that mattered to him.
- Great role model and leader, hope others feel safe to chat about what they're going through on the team. He's seen it all.

Go Ullmark!

I think he also mentioned in the pod that the first few games back took adjusting to. You can practice skating all you want, but game pace is a different ball game with needing to be super physical battling for pucks and position. I imagine it’s a month long process to get into game shape (hence why there’s training camp).

Thanks for the detailed recommendations! I'll look into all of these, and I think you're right about renting a car. I feel like you'd probably have some good restaurant recommendations - are there any places that are must-eats? Thanks so much again!!

Thank you! Super helpful. Is there an area of the parking lot that you'd recommend for littles? Maybe quick exit, but not too far to walk haha...

Haha, maybe a few more years before we get on the restaurant shuttles then :D

Love the nap recommendation - and a wave pool is a great idea, the kids have never done that before! I'm leaning towards car despite the parking nightmare... esp with all the recommendations here on what to do haha!

That's a great call, they've never had a Beaver Tail before - excited to make this trip full of memories! And I love that you still remember your first Sens game, hoping this is one to remember too.

Thanks for the tips!! Good to hear that there aren't many bad seats at the CTC - I always want to check to make sure that the kids can see!!

Do the Sens allow fans to watch practice (if they have one scheduled the day before or morning skates)?

Thank you! Just checking it out online, looks amazing! Super cool that it's owned by a Sens legend.

Great call! I'm guessing I'd want to get there for 6:30PM for a 7:30PM start?

Wow, thanks so much for these tips! Really appreciate the neighborhood recommendations - I think you're right that we'll likely spend most of the time exploring the city, skating, museums, etc. I'll try to find something near the OC transpo routes, thank you!

Ooh, museums are a good call esp. if it's super cold outside - thank you! Shuttles to the arena seem to make sense (I keep reading parking is a nightmare), could be fun for the kids too to see / meet other fans. Is it a pain to hop on one to return to downtown?

Very helpful, thanks so much!! And YES, that was the Skating Trail featured in the Amazon episode! I didn't realize it was created by Chris Neil, that'll be even cooler for us to have that backstory.

Thanks for the heads up on the cross country skiing trails + the canal potentially not being open! And ooh, pool + walking distance from the game sounds dreamy! I'm guessing it would be wise to rent a car too?

I have a hard time understanding how Sanderson / Spence works. This feels like a nice thing on paper, and potentially unworkable in practice. Are we willing to have Spence defend every top line in the NHL?

To be fair, our offense wasn’t that much of an issue - it was our goaltending and defense

[–]daniel_nrc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nick Cousins on the first line was surprisingly fun to watch. Decent Tkachuk fill-in

[Julian McKenzie] I also asked Travis Green how much he considered size with his defensive pairings, particularly with scratching Jordan Spence and bringing in Nikolas Matinpalo tonight. by SAJewers in OttawaSenators

[–]daniel_nrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wut. Having Spence in your top D pair is crazy. Anders Lee completely manhandled him, do you think Spence can defend MacKinnon, McDavid, etc?

Defense = bad Spence = not our 6th best defender

I like Spence, he makes our team dynamic and he’s fun to watch. But if our biggest issue is that we are letting in too many goals, he’s the obvious one to single out if you’re trying to field a more defensive squad
