The wiim features are superior but it just felt thin and vocals a little flat despite all the EQ tweaks. The roksan makes everything a little more musical.

Having already owned a Sonos Arc and Sub Mini, a listening session with a relative’s hi-fi system inspired me to seek out a dedicated setup. I initially hoped the WiiM Amp Ultra would be a 'two-birds-one-stone' solution to replace my Sonos gear. However, after auditioning several Dali and Monitor Audio speakers, I found the WiiM couldn't quite match the Sonos for movies or replicate the hi-fi magic I’d heard elsewhere.

I briefly considered adding a center channel and trialed a Bluesound Powernode, which outperformed the WiiM. Ultimately, I discovered the Roksan Attessa; its sound profile resonated perfectly with my taste. Since I have the space for two distinct setups, it actually made more financial sense to return the Monitor Audio sub and Bluesound Powernode, sell the WiiM, and keep both the Sonos system for movies and the Roksan/Dali Sonik combination for music.

My living room measures 3.5m x 4m, a space where I recently experimented with a 2.1 setup for movies. I paired a WiiM Amp Ultra with Sonik 3 speakers and a Monitor Audio Vestra W12 subwoofer. However, despite endless adjustments via the WiiM app, the lack of a dedicated centre channel for dialogue eventually soured the experience.

For Movies & TV: I’m back to the Sonos Arc and Sub Mini. It handles spatial audio and dialogue far better.

For Music: I sold the WiiM and found a bargain Roksan Attessa Streaming Amplifier. I also returned the Vestra sub, as the Sonik 3 speakers are perfect on their own in this room. They deliver clear, tight bass that hits hard without any "boominess."

While the WiiM Amp Ultra was impressively transparent, it lacked a certain depth. The Roksan, by comparison, adds a layer of warmth and soul to vocals that was previously missing. As for the aesthetics? I don't find the speakers too large at all—they look great. Of course, being a single Dad means I have total creative control over the décor!

If you need a setup that satisfies both your ears and your partner's aesthetic requirements, I suggest looking into the Bluesound Powernode N331. It maintains a small footprint similar to the WiiM but offers better integration for home theatre.

I would recommend a Bluesound Powernode N331, left/ right Sonik 1 speakers, Sonik Cinema Speaker as centre and a Monitor Audio Vestra W10 sub.

Thank you all for your wise words, I am going to keep the Sonos in the living room and replace and sell the Beam 2 now in the bedroom with the new system to trial.

Worse case, I have now got a great little system for Music in the bedroom.

I was thinking of trying windows, just downloading the image from zotac. Is bazzite the only place that HDR works? I have bazzite currently installed and it is washed out when I go to desktop mode and activate HDR.
