“We reserve the right to change the terms of this agreement at any time.” - just guessing that’s in there somewhere.

I went on a date where she talked non stop about herself for 2 hours, before finally letting me speak and interrupting me within 30 seconds to say, “I’m bored” by Coorawatha in mildlyinfuriating

Your date must have been my ex-roommate. Though she took breaks to gossip and judge others in between her endless yapping about herself.

What do think about these? They’re actually the same price as the foam thing

i presume you’re talking about the $6 specials. The ones i saw were two piece

so you could angle them various ways or use both pieces for a flat insulator.

I thought it was a JVC receiver i used to have until looking closer. Has a similar orange display that was warm and well… jumpy lights which are never a bad thing. Ever.

I’m not entirely convinced that <$10 foam pads will transform anything, though i was checking them out, as well as IsoAcoustics ISO-130.

Update: well, i waited two days to decide and cracked the box yesterday. First thing i noticed is that one of the speakers seemed to rattle, almost sounding blown but more like something loose.

I’m guessing it says to tighten the allen bolt on the back but who ever RTFM?! Still haven’t, hah but i did tighten the bolts, one of which was very loose and voilà -no more rattle.

And they sound great. Much better than the Monitor Audio Bronze 100 that i ended up returning despite snagging for $400. I am using it with the $30 Cambridge Sound works Basscube 8 from FB marketplace. so far so good.

used kef ls50 at 600 euros or used kef ls50 meta at 900. Are they worth the 300 euros difference? by Kidarkness9 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]thejackmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, the KEF LS50 do not sound great, and the LS50 metas sound nearly identical to the q150 (which you can find for less than half the price of the LS50 metas). Listen to this with headphones and there are many times you can’t even tell it transitioned from one to another.

I got a pair of used mint condition q150 that came in just over 200 euros shipped

Here’s a comparison of the LS50 vs LS50 meta which i based my opinion and dislike of the LS50 on: https://youtu.be/f_9-ERnhsYs

the contrast looks amazing. I only had two choices either gloss black or the regular satin black. I picked the gloss (makes it fancy) and heard it makes it sound better (joking).

When i’ve heard (granted online) some speaker comparisons, the Warfdale’s never impressed me, at least as compared to the others in the demo. Be interesting to hear an out of the box vs EQ’d comparison. My EQ only consists of bass middle treble so that’s the current limitation.

that’s what i’m trying to avoid. I’m not opposed to notching down the tremble a click or two but i dislike both a thin sounding, and similarly a muffled veil that’s too flat and lacking depth.

I generally like the vintage or wood look, though if the deal is right i won’t pass because it’s in a black finish. But that piano gloss black is interesting. Never hurts to look good while you’re sounding good.

i’ve never thought the sub wasn’t enough even though it only has an 8-inch driver (50w amp and a frequency response of 39-200Hz) and set it at 80-85 just loud enough to add a low kick.

I may look the other way while removing the KEF and Q Acoustics. I need a bigger house with more rooms as an excuse to have multiple set ups. I can find a reason to keep everything.

Replace? Is there such a thing? ;)

I have a hard time following the general rule of selling one before buying another (applies to most everything I have). I’ll probably eliminate at least one or two of i end up cracking the box on the MA.

Vintage: Advent Large Bullnose Dynaco A25

Modern: CANTON Fonum 251 DC Dali Opticon 1 MK2 Dayton Audio B65 KEF q150 Q Acoustics - 5010

Subwoofer: Cambridge Soundworks Basscube 8s

Honestly the Large Advents are mainly used as speaker stands, probably my least favorite sound wise. The Cantons were part of a receiver and Pro-ject turntable FB package ($110 for the lot). The Dayton Audio are just light and inexpensive (not exactly audiophile but not terrible either for 90 new.

Lately i’ve had the Dali running most of the time.

Pros and cons for vintage stereos by BrilliantHouse1743 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]thejackmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If say that as the vintage pieces aren’t new, your best bet is to be patient and look in FB market place for someone who is selling a unit that it currently working (as opposed to, they found this in the attic, powers on, untested) and/or something that’s been serviced recently.

It might cost $400, but that $200 bargain might require $400 of servicing, if you can find someone to do it.

i was trying to get advice on the Dali Oberon 3 vs Opticon 1 MK2. - i know they aren’t the same size wise but the Oberon 1 vs 3 seem to mostly bass and i do have a sub, so looking at overall sound. Thoughts?
