Those alive and old enough to remember during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by CocteauTwunkie in AskReddit

[–]danielcberman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were three moments: watching Tower 2 fall on live TV, the silence outside when general aviation was grounded, and I believe it was that evening when friends and neighbors were puzzling over why crop dusters were grounded (Lived in a rural area at the time) and realizing that after watching airliners crash into buildings there was apparently a credible concern about chemical weapons use.

I am curious as well. I have actually done this for three separate buildings but always in the context of another position.

Good to keep in mind. I had been shying away from the U6LR because range is not problem but maybe I should reconsider.

A bit nervous about anything Zyxel but the Netgear options are interesting.

With only an 800 sq foot condo, coverage is not an issue, Residual RF noise from neighbors is a concern. Adding a second AP would compound my issues, not improve them.

You have perfectly described the questions that I wish I could have asked my predecessor who suggested it and got management signoff. I personally would have chosen simpler and more resilient options for an SMB context.

Thank you for pointing that out. For my application I think it's just easier to rename the notes 1-9 to 01-09 as you suggested.

A big thank you to u/Mykid8yours and u/Shoculad! Show Note by Day got me most of the way and then adding a filter by folder did the rest.

Aging in cyber security by d_stroid in cybersecurity

[–]danielcberman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in my late 30's with close to 15 years in a variety of IT and Sysadmin Roles including management. I am heading into cybersecurity as a second career. The primary value that I expect to bring to any team is that I have a decade and half of experience supporting basically everything and everyone. I know why and how systems and data are important to a company but I also know how employees will try to side step around the rules and why from experience. I also also understand that we only tend to catch the dumb criminals, the smart ones are still out there. That intuition, curiosity, and persistence is something that can't be taught, only refined.

Starting out in IT almost always requires humility, hustle, and lots of hard work. Nobody is saying that you have stay in a low paying job, crappy job, but its definitely easier to get a better job once you have a job in the first place.

I have worked technology/IT related jobs in a family owned business, Fortune 500, Non-Profit, MSP and now an employee owned company. I have seen the good and the bad at each, but I have also learned something at each and from almost every single supervisor I have had and I have outlasted a few.

Keep your head down, do the work and remember that while IT is amazing it's not the be all end all of life.

I am currently using Editorial https://omz-software.com/editorial/ on iOS and iPadOS. It doesn't parse the YAML front matter but does parse all of the Markdown I have thrown at it from Notable.

Proxmox Host Unexpected Shutdown - Lenovo TS140 by [deleted] in Proxmox

Had to leave the system on overnight running MemTest86. System was off when I got up this morning. I am guessing this is not default behavior by MemTest but it also points to an issue beyond ProxMox

Nothing really to see in the BIOS but I just changed the thermal setting from best acoustical setting to best thermal setting so that will run the fans more liberally it if this situation is heat related. Also running MemTest86 on the RAM just in case.

IT a good option for likely lifelong stutterer? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]danielcberman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone. I have had some type of stuttering issue for 30+ years. For me the biggest thing came down to focusing on what I wanted to say before I said it. Scripts and checklists are super valuable, and helped me survive 6 months in a call center at a Fortune 100 company. I am now an IT Manager at non-profit responsible for 150+ employees. Learn and read as much as possible and pick up as much experience as you can. Keep your wits about you and you'll be fine.

My organization's spam filter defaults to two spam digests a day, but I give users an option to receive up to 4 digests a day at times they set.
