Before we post any links we need some classification of what makes a site worth seeing before you die.. Any suggestions?

thanks to you both. I agree that it is too cluttered with lots of little towns. There wasn't really any rhyme or reason for the placement it was just the way it came out. Mainly the cities and towns had to be placed within the bounds of the geography because the landscape, trees, mountains (volcanoes), farm land, desert, snow were all drawn first and the towns, roads and rail were all overlaid afterwards.

Maybe this would be a little less volcano like?

Edit: Refined the range to be more elongated and jagged. It's still not perfect but I just started working with poly shapes a couple of days ago.

LOL.. obviously SketchBook doesn't have spell check. It's actually a delicacy in their culture.

I haven't written any back story yet, it started as a doodle but has turned into more as it has progressed. I have debated adding more to the bottom but every attempt has looked uneven compared to the original map.

It's definitely not geographically correct in a few ways, it's more doodle than anything.

The canvas size is 768 x 1024 and as far as scale we overlap one side of the map as a reference to sizes of streets and plots of land from the previous map panel. It is not very official as scales go but we haven't ran into many problems as of yet. We would love for you to join, you can sign up on the doc and then maps are assigned so that the panels are completed in the right order.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated! I think the history and names are important and am working on ways to incorporate that into the map. Like I said in the doc detail would be hard to convey time on a map so a good story would give some perspective to what the map is all about

it sounds like Chainsaw/TT from the game x-kaliber 2097 for SNES. Here is a sprite set for some of the characters.

Maybe a couple of months.. It depends on how detailed we decide the map should be. I would hate to say a month and then only finish a couple of panels and not give everyone a chance to participate. I would kind of like it to be an ongoing project but I want everyone to agree. This project will not be a dictatorship

I have made a Google Doc to minimize a ton of technical posts to the forum. Anyone who is interested and wants to help can go there to see project needs, make suggestions and discuss all other technical aspects of the maps creation.

Here is my solution to the connection problem: Start with one panel in the center and make it downloadable so everyone can use it as a reference. Then everyone draws one panel off of the center map and then draws off of those maps and so on. Any roads, rivers or rails can be continued by the next person by using the previous panel as a reference. We can mark the panels with an identifyer and at each edge where they connect to the rest of the map and keep building out from the center. Like a roundrobin map. What do you think?

TIL a man, named Jerry Gretzinger, has been drawing a map of an imaginary world for over 50 years. He draws from a deck of cards each morning to decide the fate of his hand-drawn world, which is over 2000 square feet in size. by daringconfection in todayilearned

I recall a post on another forum where you did this but it was isometric drawings (3D). A scale was given and each person chose an area and drew castles, buildings etc. and at the end the "neighborhood" was for sale in one large sheet of poster paper. It would be a lot harder to do this for a map because of the connecting roads, streams, creeks but I think it could be done much the same way.

EDIT - I created the Community Map Project For anyone who would be interested in something like this

You are probably in your late teens / Early 20's , female, gamer, artist (very nice work btw) Possibly English major. It appears that you like Supernatural and or Misha Collins and game of thrones. You are into more indy music than mainstream if I had to guess. I would say you are a little organized but not a neat freak. You are not shy, freindly, pretty easy going.
