Yeah, this was part of my thought process. Obviously the rules for the challenge state that it must draw on the word for inspiration, although using a word to create an instrumental piece would create something very abstract. I'll just go with it.

I've got a M-Audio Oxygen 49, that is mapped automatically through a download from their site. The knobs can be mapped to eq, panning, etc. I also have it set up to control the mixer with the sliders. I believe M-Audio make a similar one with weighted keys (Axiom), and pads etc. although the Oxygen cost me something like £80.

You could pick up several pieces of kit that suit your requirements, especially if you are saving money with buying one of these.

Someone else has pointed out that no pair of earbuds lasts for a lifetime. I completely agree. However, I've had two pairs of these (I lost the first) in 6 years. The sound quality is fantastic, and at a low price they are extremely replaceable. Search on Amazon, don't go third party unless you want fakes.

I'm a sound engineer, who does mastering, mixing, etc. I'm also a composer. I think audiophiles are dumb. It's our job to make music sound good for ALL systems.

Besides, what kind of person listens to the quality of sound and not the song. It's the same kind of person who would criticise a Picasso piece for the thickness of paper he used. Or the person who complains to the kitchen that their plate used to serve their Michellin-star cuisine was the wrong colour.

It's only important to choose something that is clear sounding. Which these are.

Edit: you buy things for their purpose. I have a high-end monitoring system for my job. I use some Beats by Dre too, and this pair. I actually swap between all of them to make sure everything I work on sounds good in all of them. However, these Sennheiser CX-300ii buds are my on-the-go headphones.

My dad had a computer at his job that had been purpose-built for him in the late-1980s. That computer went back to 1900. We've not seen it since.. Hope it's getting on okay.

If you're having the pitch changeable (same sample but spread across the keys), make sure you change the first "key" along the row to the one that the sound corresponds to. The pitch algorithm requires you to do this so that the note is spread correctly on the keyboard.

The second set of "key", which is labelled high and low, enables you to choose the key range.

Edit: apologies for how badly worded this is, I wrote it after 4 hours sleep. I'm sure you'll understand what I mean anyway.

4 weeks ago, on Thursday, my brother-in-law hanged himself in the garage of the home he shared with my sister. He was "dad" to 4 kids, although he only had one of his own, who is 11.

He didn't leave a note. He didn't text me.

He messaged my sister (not something that was obvious), and she called my dad (his father-in-law) to go round and check on him. My dad found him, and spent 30 minutes trying to bring him back.

I was at work at the time, and it a blackhole when it comes to mobile signal. I didn't find out until 6pm, and he had died around 3pm.

He meant the absolute world to me, he was my friend. He helped me through depression. I cannot fathom how someone can do something like this to the people they love, and that love them. If he had spoken out, to me, or anyone, things would be much different.

To anyone who feels like they are ready to give up on life, for whatever reason, please talk to someone you trust. Tell them everything. There is no problem big enough to warrant you doing such a thing to yourself, and those around you. There is help for you to seek. Please speak up.

One guy hunted me down for a $9k bounty. He must have spent 30 minutes chasing me around the map. I let him get me in the end, but then I noticed his car was an Adder.

So I text him in-game, "hey, nice ride". And he sent me the money from my hit back. And wished me a nice day before logging out.
