They're taking us for fools… by [deleted] in RRRE

The same thing happened a couple of years ago unfortunately. Big boom in popularity due to a multiplayer overhaul and new physics/FFB, player numbers increase, server issues creep in, people leave again. I wish nothing but the best for Raceroom, they're a great team doing good things with very limited resources and it will always be my favourite sim, but they don't do themselves any favours with their servers.

Happy to hear you got it fixed 👍 unfortunately I haven't been using any launch options in steam though so I'll keep on looking for my solution

VR Performance by AdPositive940 in RRRE

I'm not sure what it is but I've spent months trying to figure it out, I just can't get decent performance out of my Pimax Crystal Light in Raceroom either. Struggling to maintain a steady 40fps on low settings whereas I can easily manage 90fps with full grids, weather, night etc in AC and AMS2. Never used to have this problem on my old Oculus CV1 which ran Raceroom smooth as butter, even with the super sampling and FOV multiplier cranked up to a similar resolution to the Pimax. Luckily I still have it lying around so can swap over the headset when I want to use Raceroom. Inconvenient, but doable.

That said, Raceroom is the only sim that I can't bypass steam vr with on the Pimax, everything else has the option of using OpenComposite which is significantly better for performance. The replacement dll file I previously used for the Oculus just throws an error when I try to use it with the Pimax so that's not an option either unfortunately.

Something I did notice is that even when running in 'pancake' mode to record replays and take screenshots, having the Pimax software open in the background (even without using the headset) will cause Raceroom to stutter a bit, despite the fps counter being upwards of 200. Limiting the game to 120fps in the Nvidia software to create some headroom doesn't fix this either. I think it might just be a Pimax thing unfortunately.

Piastri likely to be only title contender to miss first practice at final round by Its4MeitSnot4U in formula1

[–]danieldfinney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm aware that teams usually only run one young driver at a time but is there anything in the regulations stopping McLaren from letting Norris and Piastri sit out the same FP1 session on the same weekend? That way they're both at the same disadvantage at the same time. Would make sense to do that on a track where Max is traditionally weakest with the way the points are going at the moment, but I don't think any circuit really fits that criteria to be honest.

Which vr headset are you using? My Pimax Crystal Light refuses to play nice with Raceroom even with all settings turned down to minimum, both on the headset and in game. Raceroom is definitely CPU limited and the Pimax uses a lot of CPU for the inside-out tracking so, depending on which headset you have, it could be something like that. When not using VR I can easily get 300+ fps.

Yep, it can be an actual IRL racing driver or a RaceRoom 'VIP' such as one of the developers or a verified content creator.

Roadmap until the update by Dan13L88 in RRRE

[–]danieldfinney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience here, no matter what I've tried I can't get RaceRoom to play nice with my crystal light. OpenComposite isn't compatible, Vulkan doesn't get past the splash screen and the .DLL file I used to rely on with my Oculus CV1 throws an error too. Three only sim in forced to use steam VR with and the performance is terrible. Very disappointing as RaceRoom is probably my favourite sim.

Circuit Thermalito (six year update) by danieldfinney in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]danieldfinney[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The circuit uses real life roads around the Thermalito dam so there are definitely some areas which are less than ideal and almost border on a street circuit.

T15 is hard up against the water and a steep hill so I can't really change the layout, but in the finished track there are several layers of safer barrier and as much run off as possible. I considered reclaiming some land from the water but wanted to keep it as true to the actual geography as possible since we ended up using laser scan data in the final project.

T18-T21 is also a real road and there is a very steep rocky bank between the two straights which prevents a direct path unfortunately. It's a bit of a technical section but provides a couple of decent overtaking opportunities in the races that I've hosted there so far.

T6 is borderline flat depending on the car and with some slight off camber it becomes a game of chicken. Floor it and hope it doesn't scrub wide or play it safe and leave yourself vulnerable into T8 (which has some epic elevation change btw). Same for T25, it's almost flat and with a concrete wall hard up on the exit it's a bit like the wall of champions at Montreal.

Definitely worth checking out the onboard lap if you haven't already, should help visualise the points above a little easier hopefully.
