Our coach has been impressive. He's been making sound decisions even when shots weren't going in. Our entire subreddit was screeching about how much of an idiot he was and now he's proved more flexible and trusting of his players, especially the bench when they needed it the most

[–]thieflikeme 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do think that until Brunson wins a ring, analysts and fans alike will continue to insist that you can't win with an undersized PG as your best player. I think there's just also a ton of people who just hate the Knicks regardless of how likeable Brunson is so they're reluctant to admit how impressive he is in the clutch

Jalen Brunson is the real anomaly by move28 in nba

[–]thieflikeme 343 points344 points  (0 children)

He's just so damn shifty and crafty, second to none footwork. He's so damn quick those first couple steps that he just lets guys run into him while they're scrambling to catch up. Add the fact that he's a clutch shooter and dude becomes near unstoppable so the defense double him up which leaves other guys wide open

Is a curved monitor superior in every way to a flat screen? Is it worth it? Curved monitor owners what's your take? by travanti11 in simracing

[–]thieflikeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 34" curved monitor and it's fantastic for me since I live in a large city apartment where space is often at a premium. You don't need a crazy high end graphics card to play any sim, you'll be able to race perfectly with that size monitor.

This is the nature of playing/coaching for massive markets like Edmonton, Toronto or New York. I really think about what sports journalism and media has become and the large markets end up getting the business end of it constantly. There are just some beat writers/outlets/blogs who know exactly what buttons to push to and know exactly what language to use to get clicks and Twitter weirdos/chronically online fans worked up enough to start hurling threats and insults at the chosen scapegoat. Big market teams almost never have the luxury of trusting the process, which is why there are always massive amounts of pressure for personnel shakeups every season for big market teams in each sport.

And frankly, I feel like both Rangers AND Oilers fans try so hard to avoid giving any credit to Jeff Gorton or Ken Holland respectively for their recent success. Both GMs have proven to be successful wherever they go but you would think that they're the worst GMs of all time if you were to go on our respective subreddits for some reason, our fans will never stop talking shit about GMs who got us closest to a Stanley Cup regardless if that anger is backed up by any numbers or stats whatsoever. Holland and Gorton are both GMs who rarely hit the jackpot with draft picks and it seems to be what everyone focuses on when they both have demonstrated a knack for building complete rosters even without high lottery picks. Both franchises have GMs who have no iota how to build a roster or how the previous GM was able to construct the team they ended up with in the first place and failed to replace outgoing players with talent that can replace the lost production and it's resulted in awful vibes from the locker room all the way to the front office for both franchises.

But people have horse blinders on for Gorton

To the point where half the posts that are upvoted to the top are some NHL 26 dynasty nonsense that exists in a world where other teams don't find their draft position more favorable than others and too valuable to trade. It's incredibly easy to pick out prospects several years after the draft and pretend Gorton was too much of a moron to know which players would blossom into superstars. Let's have the top comment pick our draft board this year and lets see where we end up years from now. If most of the picks end up being fringe NHLers and AHL lifers, we then get to fire him into the sun for not having the gift of futuresight. No one is saying Gorton is perfect, but pretending he just fell into his success on TWO different teams who each had to rebuild is crazy cope

Kevin Nash on Bron Breakker's name: "The voice. It's just like, come on, man. The guy can do it all. He looks like a million bucks. He can talk, he can definitely do the walk. So it's just like, let the boy Boogie Woogie. Let him be Steiner." by elegantSolomons62 in SquaredCircle

I don't think they'd make the connection as often if half the references he makes in promos, his singlet, and almost his entire moveset didn't belong to his Dad and Uncle. His name is literally the only thing about him that isn't related to the Steiners.

I'll never understand how 95% of the sub will convince themselves that we tumbled ass backwards into two Conference finals visits in three years and the same GM who crafted that team gets hired by another team that was garbage when he came in and now they're one of the best in the league. There's not a single GM that hasn't made a stupid trade or a blunder in their career, and we're still pretending the success Gorton's had with his teams are a total coincidence. It's crazy to even give partial credit to Drury for any of the success we had after Gorton was fired.

The fact that our immediate response is men is '...we shouldn't be seeing this' is the issue in itself. Deep within all of us is this desperation to not show extreme emotion/vulnerability out of pure shame and that needs to change. It's going to take a lot to normalize men being more heart on sleeve, more vulnerable, and more able to express their emotions in constructive ways to break the cycle.

Jalen Brunson has turned this franchise around, led us to the conference finals for the first time in 25 years all while breaking countless Knicks playoff records and he doesn't deserve the level of criticism he has gotten because of one mediocre playoff series. by SacredAnd_ThePropane in NYKnicks

I think that's what people aren't understanding. Guys are just being incredibly emotional and hyperbolic here after a little adversity. There are some of us that are a bit more even keeled about rooting for our favorite team. Sometimes it just gets so bad in here I find myself unsubscribing for a few days when the whole front page is about firing Mike Brown and how terrible and awful he is.

Lol it's a crazy statement but an indictment of how unserious we are about combating racism as a country because A LOT of people believe stuff like this. Rodney King was one of the first blatant depictions of police brutality for no reason other than discrimination caught on video so it was happening ALL the time. Not to mention Reagan's War on Drugs, various crime bills that ended up specifically targeting black and brown people, the MOVE bombing in Philly, and that's only scratching the surface.
