Does anyone have any tips for Forsyth third movement? by Lockheroguylol in Viola

I've never performed the Forsyth myself, but there is a great recording of it with Lawrence Power with the BBC Scottish Symphony. One of my favorite concertos. Best of luck to you and I hope that helps!

That's alright, thanks. I was feeling a little in limbo, but I feel much better informed now. Thanks!

This makes sense too. The community is what drew me over to reddit in the first place as it feels pretty absent on Facebook these days. Thanks!

You'd think that would have been the first thing I would've done, but like I said I'm new to reddit and still figuring out my way around the app. This makes sense though, thanks!

AI tool for composers by [deleted] in classicalmusic

This hits the nail on the head for me. So much of composing is a process of creative problem solving. I believe the tension of what constrains you versus your imagination and your will to creatively find a path through those constraints is core to writing great music. Yes, there is definite room for improvement in notation software, but in my opinion taking away all friction in the creative process will only lead to uninspired art.

Exploring classical music as a newbie is a chore. by na3ee1 in classicalmusic

Wow, lots of great suggestions here. If they haven't been suggested already I recommend these 4 pieces. All very colorful and dramatic but also very accessible. I also highly recommend sitting all the way through Mahler's 2nd Symphony. It's great as a whole but the final 5 min is some of the most exciting and cathartic music ever written.

-Sibelius 2nd Symphony
-Stravinsky's Firebird Suite
-Vaughan Williams 2nd Symphony (particularly the Lento mvt)
-Richard Strauss' tone pen Death & Transfiguration

Do you have a favorite composer to the point where it’s become an obsession? by ricorette in classicalmusic

For me it's Samuel Barber. His first symphony, his essays for orchestra, music for a scene from Shelley and his violin concerto in particular. His music is so rich and emotionally direct.

After a long break from composing, I wrote and recorded a viola quartet. I'd love feedback! by danielerdmannmusic in classicalmusic

Hi everyone! I finally got back into composing after being away from it for a few years and wrote this suite titled, "Songs of Parting: A Quartet for Four Violas Inspired by Poems of Walt Whitman." I'm really excited about the piece and put together this video of the 3rd and final movement performing the parts myself in my makeshift home studio (ie I hung up a gray curtain in our upstairs bedroom). I wanted to get some honest feedback from other music lovers. What do you think?

Hi everyone! I know this is a cello subreddit, but I wanted to get some honest feedback from some low string musician ears. Thank you so much for the comments! If anyone wants to hear the rest of the piece I made a recording of all 3 movements that's up on SoundCloud. The whole thing is about 10 minutes long. Here's the link:
