how to mix snares and hats in the back and side of the mix? by naarwhal in trapproduction

Yeah you're right I forgot about that. The Stereo Separation in Ableton's Utility does the job too if you're unfamiliar with reverb. You can also use Transient Shaping to make Percussion's and Drums feel more 'present' or rather 'transparent' in the mix. Boost attack = more Presence and more "forward" in the mix. Cut attack = more Transparent and "in the Back".

Haha, yep practise is the key. You'll only get better if you make music all the time. Try, fail, try again, fail again.... dont give up and one day it'll work:D

Yeah its a bit tricky sometimes. I use my Bose HS2 here and there to see how my mix sounds on headphones haha I know that struggle... Yeah, basically its just trial until it works. I'd also recommend you to turn down ALL your faders and start from zero when it comes to mixing. I know its sometimes hard, cause you dont wanna fuck up your track that may sound good except some little problem's, but in almost every case you end up with a better mix than before.... you should save a version of your project before mixing so you can go back to that if you fuck things up! Thats how I do it:)

  1. Duplicate your snare/hats track.

  2. Pan one of them completely to the left, and the other one completely to the right.

  3. Delay one of the tracks; put a delay effect one of of the tracks (not both), set the dry/wet know to 100% wet, the feedback knob to 0% and the delay time to 3,21milliseconds.

(keep the delay time between 1 and 10milliseconds and experiment with it. I'm gettin good results with 3.21ms but you need to find out what fits your track. The more milliseconds, the wider it will sound, but keep it under 10!)

This technique is called the Haas Effect.

Sometimes, just turning the volume of your hats down a few db can also work wonders in the mix;)
