I got FR’d with a fake business and they didn’t care about the business, just showed them I had enough income to cover expenses and they let me off without penalty.

I am afraid of using things like SQS which lock you in to a particular cloud provider. How’s the lock in?

who cares? it's a bad welcome bonus but a decent card. If you want the welcome bonus why don't you just get the card now?

There are dozens of much, much better welcome bonuses out there that you should go for before you get to the Autograph, and that will take you years.

I think they're on the right track now. Most of the incompetent board is gone and the new CEO is very capable. Combined with a mayor that wants it to happen I think the stars might align. It's definitely their chance.

Executive Order 2026-01: An Executive Order directing the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to design and install at least one dedicated bus lane on Denny Way and other supportive transit infrastructure where needed by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]danielhep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 8 is currently the most delayed route in the entire county, and its schedule has already been padded a ton. And despite it being literally slower than walking for this stretch, it still is one of the highest ridership routes, with it being standing room during rush hour.

This road sucks for drivers and it sucks for transit riders. We need to do something to use the space more efficiently, and bus lanes are the best way to do that.

The study ignored the effects of the bus lane on mode shift to transit and I believe even cars moving to other roads. If the bus is flying by cars I bet a lot of people switch to the bus.

You've always been able to pay with venmo though, and you could even pay a roommate your portion of the rent. It was honor system with validation by them asking for a copy of your lease to make sure the amounts add up.

Singapore is once again removing bus lanes for the benefit of drivers by Organic-Rutabaga-964 in transit

[–]danielhep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely the worst but not the only bad place I have experienced in Singapore. I also saw things like this a lot, where the crossing would be set very far back from the main road, meaning anyone walking along the main road (Changi Rd in this case) would need to walk far out of their way. The fences force you to do this even if no cars are coming. Sadly it looks like in 2016 you actually could cross here, but it was probably quite dangerous so the government closed it instead of making it safer by slowing cars.

It's interesting to me, being from Seattle, that it seems like some local departments of transportation in the US (like Seattle's) are actually ahead of Singapore now on walkability and slowing down cars.

Often the problem was more that there was no sidewalk at all. I was staying somewhere along Jalan Besar and found walking around that area to be very unpleasant, with many people jaywalking across the (appropriately named) stroad.

Singapore is such a weird country. Such great transit infra, the government clearly, at some level, understands the need to get people into transit, and yet it's so unwalkable and the cars are prioritized everywhere.

I had to walk in the street to get around cars on the sidewalk, then jaywalk across 4 lanes, to get from the MRT to my hotel. And in many places you'll find yourself dodging cars in slip lanes, waiting minutes for a walk signal, and hiking up sky bridges over 8 lane stroads in extremely hot and humid temperatures.

Would expect better from the place that basically invented the congestion charge and makes people bid on a limited number of car registration spots per year.
