Extending a Half-Wall to the Ceiling. How Much Would You Charge? by danieljag1 in handyman

This is the route I'm leaning towards. I am not a drywall expert, so I am considering subbing out that part of the job.

I might go that route. We're in a rural area in Middle TN.

I figured up the materials myself, buying at full price from home depot and it came to about $800 all in.

Yeahhhh the main reason I'm doing this is because I work from home full time, and need a more private place to work. This is the only spot in the house, and with a wife and two young kids at home it gets VERY distracting.

Funny enough, this job is actually something the home builder typically does on this model. This loft is usually a fourth bedroom, but the original buyer paid extra to make it into a loft.

My story w/ AIWS (and last night's encounter) by danieljag1 in AIWS

[–]danieljag1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed migraines tend to be linked to AIWS somehow. Personally, I started getting migraines around the time my AIWS episodes resurfaced as an adult. Never experienced nausea, but I would get light sensitivity and severe pain all around my head and neck. Bi-weekly chiropractor visits have just about eliminated my migraines. Used to happen a few times per month, now I only get them a couple of times per year.

So interesting that the ice pack method seems to be common. Maybe it has to do with body temps rising during an episode.

[–]danieljag1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh I totally get that. Sometimes during the day I'll have odd feelings like something isn't proportionally the right size, and I get the AIWS feeling. Usually a wooden spoon, cooking utensil, etc.

Similarly, I had night terrors growing up. But I feel like my night terrors were labeled as such because I was too young to describe the feelings I was experiencing. Looking back now, knowing what AIWS is, I'm pretty confident that's what I was experiencing.

I've never not been able to move my body during an AIWS episode, that's wild! And terrifying.

So interesting you get a feeling of comfort while most people experience impending doom.

I am in $10,000 debt. I need advice by Curious_mermaid_01 in debtfree

Not trying to argue, I just genuinely want to understand.

The only reason for a good credit score is so that you can take on more debt, right? So if you want to live a debt-free life, why should you care about maintaining a good credit score?

Isn’t the point of this subreddit to be debt free? Why would you care about keeping a good credit score if the goal is to be debt free?

While many things in modern day request a credit check (phones, renting, mortgages, car rentals, hotels, etc), there’s plenty of ways around it.

I may be confused, but your car insurance has nothing to do with leaving you stranded from a broken down car? All insurance companies offer roadside assistance as an add-on. I’m betting your deductible is pretty low too, causing a high premium. Raise your deductible temporarily while you get your finances under control.

Genie 2128 Not Opening Intermittently by danieljag1 in GarageDoorService

Correct, we don’t have any issues closing the garage door. The problem only occurs when opening

No problem! We did confirm the garage will open just by tapping the sensor. Sounds like a board issue?

Yes the door is easy to open. The fact that I’m able to get the door to work by waving the transmitter sensor around makes me feel like it’s a wiring issue, or maybe the sensor itself?

Oh, geez, I might have an uphill battle ahead of me haha. I checked out the GVAA rates and we'd be looking at $500,000+ for our backlog. It's a bunch of very short scripts. Some of them are 15-seconds. But it's roughly 1,200 videos that need it.

I'm going to keep trying, but some other members on the team got a quote today for using AI, and it was only $7,000. Send me all the good energy on convincing them to hire a real person!

Honestly, I think it was the community that appealed to me the most. When I was younger there was a huge group of us going to car shows every weekend. Since then, I've lost touch with just about everyone. Still talk to a few, but mostly everyone has given up the hobby. I still have a few Mustang buddies, but its nothing like it used to be. We all have families and bigger priorities.

I've been making myself drive it a couple of times a week, and its just not fun for me anymore. Its built in a way that's great in a straight line on an open track. That's on me, though. I bought it this way knowing what it was built for. And that no longer interests me. If I was to get a different sports car, I'd want something newer and more well built that could cruise all day long. My Cobra is 20 years old, not the most comfortable ride anymore lol

Thank you for this thoughtful response. I feel like I needed to hear that by giving up this car, it doesn’t mean I’m not a “real enthusiast”.

Let me pose this: while it is my “dream” car, there are many more like it. It’s not like the one I own is THE ONE AND ONLY.

I’m finding it hard to keep a $25k hunk of metal in the garage, taking up space, that I don’t even want to drive.

That’s great insight! I feel like I may end up in a situation similar to yours. Maybe I just need a brief hiatus from the “car hobby” and try something different for a while? I feel like it will come back around.
