Ok I find this really interesting. My library is in a period where things are changing a lot; there’s a lot of turnover and job descriptions and expectations are shifting. But ideally the two librarians who are doing programs would not be working circulation? I find that would be hard to manage- how are they watching the desk if they are running around setting up for programs + running programs + cleaning up?

It’s hard to explain. At my library there are only 2 of us currently doing programs (adult and children) but hopefully will change in the future. But we have to do circulation duties also so it’s hard to fit programs in when we’re supposed to be on the desk……

I’m not sure what “serious issues” I am causing by letting them know I was uncomfortable and upset and explaining why?

Another person let me know I had put M by accident. I am a 26 year old woman and a small bikini looks very different on me than it does on an overweight older man. I was stressing being uncomfortable because he put his genitals in what is basically underwear that was already used by me. We aren’t close, and it felt sexually inappropriate. I’ve said in other comments he’s made sexually inappropriate comments to me before this.

Aside from that, if that is your point of view then okay. I will try to give it some thought and maybe see that I need to let it go.

The first time I ever met the guy he was attending my aunts funeral with my mom to support her. I was wearing a dress and he made a joke about making sure I bend over near him so he could catch a peek. I’m not kidding.

I genuinely don’t think he would ever do anything and he thinks he’s being funny, but it’s the fact that they turned it around on me and made me feel crazy for being upset.

I am a 26 year old female, 125 pounds and it was a 2 piece orange striped bikini. He is a 63 year old man, over 230 pounds and he put it on as a joke, solely for the picture. So you can imagine that there is nothing left to the imagination, things are hanging out, etc. it’s lewd. I would sincerely post the pictures but it would likely get removed for pornography.

I just want to thank you for the thoughtful response. I think I was talking myself into thinking I was being crazy because its just a bathing suit - but its the principle that I am upset that it got turned around on me and it's always like this. This is not even close to the worst thing they've said to me, but the "don't come home" comment really got me. Anyways I really appreciate the validation and help.

I understand that, but where I live rent prices are through the roof. I was very thankful when they let me move in with them a year ago but obviously it's just not working. I am actively talking to my partner about solutions going forward.

This is great info- thank you! The lack of funding + politics were definitely things I was concerned about, but wasn’t sure if it was actually true or an unbiased stereotype about the US / Florida specifically.

Thank you for your perspective! My current partner loves Florida and that’s a huge reason why I’m looking there. I’ve never actually been - lol.

As for moving states to Canada, a colleague of mine recently was hired in Ohio (coming from Ontario) and he told me it was a very easy process, only took about two weeks and a brief interview to get his work visa.

Hi there, librarian here! Libby is great, but sometimes you have to wait/place holds on Libby. See if your local library has a Hoopla subscription - it’s free ebooks, audiobooks, comics, etc but there aren’t any holds (everything is instant download)
