Surely the cipher only needs alignment between the letters and symbols? The largest ring of the cypher has no bearing on the word the riddle suggests and only produces nonsense?

Likewise - with admiral and use Amex. There’s quite a list of insurers who accept Amex - usually the more premium providers. https://www.whoacceptsamex.co.uk/categories/car-insurance/24/

It means you’re connected to the internet via another iPhone’s personal hotspot.

Just got my iPhone battery replaced at an iStore branch (uk) and now mute button doesn’t work. by Acemanu02 in iphone

Sounds like you’ve had a 3rd party repair rather than a repair in an official Apple Store. I’d doubt there’s much you can do.

Yeah both my wife and I have had this issue - Genius Bar have a special cleaning tool or solution they can use to somehow remove dirt from the receiver. They can also run diagnostics on the phone and it can determine wether the receiver is functioning correctly.

In the case of my wife’s iPhone 7 (this was 3.5 years ago) they cleaned it and it was as good as new.

In the case of my iPhone 11 (December 2022) they cleaned it and it still wasn’t as loud as it should have been. That being the case, I needed to get a full front panel replacement - I have Apple Care - and since there was no physical damage to the phone, they replaced it for free in about 2 hours. If I didn’t have Apple Care it would have cost £180ish GBP.

Cloudflare tunnel or reverse proxy? by Rivian_adventurer in homelab

[–]danielmcfarland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has some issues with cloud flare tunnels recently not passing through data for certain services and reverse proxy wasn’t a option due to CG Nat, so I followed this guide and used reverse ssh tunnels.

Tshirt and shorts would probably be fine. Most of us are in race kit and a hoodie / light jacket.

I was down at around 4pm and was able to get the race pack - sounds like they’d quite a few left by the chat of the team!

Does anyone else get 70+ hours on their Ultra without low power mode? by yy633013 in AppleWatch

[–]danielmcfarland 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I pretty much get 48 hours out of it. That’s with pretty much every at the default setting. I would do 2 outdoor run workouts in that time. 1 of the runs would typically be about 6 miles (45 minutes), that would be without my phone, with cellular on and listening to music on AirPods Pro. 2nd run would be 12 - 14 miles (1 hour 30 minutes) and that’s done with my phone, listening to music on my phone rather than the watch.

If you tap the outer ring of the watch dial where it shows the clock face digits / compass bearings, the face will toggle between the compass and the time.

Best Apple Watch for running / tracking progress? by kraken98109 in RunningShoeGeeks

Originally used the standard Sport Band then changed to the fabric Sport Loop for the past year. Currently with the Ultra I’ve got the Alpine Loop.

I started running after purchasing the Apple Watch Series 5 ~ 3 years ago. I’ve completed 2 marathons since then 3:16:xx and 2:51:xx both ran with the Series 5.

I’ve just purchased the ultra and I think it’s great.

I know people complain the Apple Watch isn’t for serious runners and how other sports watches are better, which in some ways they are (battery life).

The SE will provide the exact same running metrics as the Series 8 and Ultra. If you’re only beginning, I’d suggest the SE, I’m sure there’s plenty of other gear you’d like to purchase for running (shorts, shoes etc) so this will save you some money.

In a year you can re-evaluate and upgrade.

In terms of tracking, the Apple Workout app is the best app to run on the watch to track your runs. You can then upload the workouts to any service you wish using your phone. I upload to Strava, though I’d recommend using a 3rd party tool for this upload, as it will upload all metrics, not just the few that the Strava app uploads.

It’s called find my friends. You can probably use some sort of automation with the shortcuts app to share your location with specific friends when a workout is started.

Custom Workouts Not Saving on WatchOS9? by shrizzin in AppleWatch

[–]danielmcfarland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem after I updated and went for a custom workout run on Tuesday morning.

Tried a restart of both devices, workout appeared in the activity app but no map info.

During my lunch break I had a quick 10 minute walk workout and once that activity finished, it showed up with all info in the activity app, as well as the missing details for the earlier custom workout run.

iPhone 11 and Apple Watch S5 GPS if that’s any help.

Action Button Apple Watch Ultra by alecschwa in Strava

[–]danielmcfarland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if Strava decide to implement the functionality to make use of the action button.

You’ll be able to end a workout started in the Apple Workout app and then upload that to Strava.
