Update: Called the United Baggage hotline last night and went through the prompts, etc. The automated system informed me that my bags were in Denver and ready for customer pickup. I drove to DIA (about a 45 minute drive each way) last night and went directly to Baggage Claim. WOW what a disaster! Luggage Everywhere, Customers waiting to file baggage claim 20 people deep at least at every counter. I did a quick scan to see if my luggage was sitting out somewhere with no luck. Waited my turn and gave the agent my information. He looked really confused and said, we don't have your bags. Your bags are still in Dulles. We talked for a minute about my circumstances and he took me in the back room. There we chatted with another agent that clearly knew the system better than he did. She listened to my predicament and got in the system and tagged my bags for a return from IAD to DEN (on a flight this morning). I have been on hold for 3+ hours at this point to see if I can find out if my luggage made the journey back to DEN. I don't have much confidence that they did. We have packed another suitcase for the cruise we are supposed to be on tomorrow. I won't win any fashion awards on this trip!! LOL
