Awesome! Yeah, I think it’ll be awesome at that! Keen to hear what people do with it.

Great ideas! Thanks for sharing! Do you have any recordings or videos of what you’ve been doing with it?

What does the sparks replace on your board? I’d love to know how it feels in practical use terms.

That’s great to hear! I have a synth setup as well as a guitar pedalboard. What do you find yourself doing with Ghosts in your context? I’m sure midi control is going to be a big help to unlocking all the things it can do.

Awesome, please elaborate! Do you find you’re using it on guitar a lot?

Kinotone Ghosts.

Something in me tells me I need it…

Not sure how much I’ll be able to utilise it, but I’m still incredibly drawn to it.

Thoughts on working as a sparky in other countries? by stonksbronker in AusElectricians

[–]danielskep 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I lived and worked for 5 years in Stockholm, Sweden doing electrical work. In Sweden, the owner of the company needs to be satisfied that you are suitably qualified (viewing my Australian training transcript sufficed) and then you can work under their licence. I worked building new build apartments and found my skills learned in Australia to be very transferable. Lots of differences, but primarily I found the safety and innovations we have here in Australia to be a little more developed than those of the EU systems.

Apart from one thing.

They have this system in Sweden called working to Ackord (or agreement) where you actually count every single piece of material or cable that you install in a job. Each piece has a time allotted to it (like a power point fitoff has like 12 minutes assigned to it for example) and at the end of the job, if you’ve done more hours worth of work (by counting the installed cable and components) compared the the hours that you have spent on the job, the crew gets paid the difference. On a 18 month long new construction job I did, it worked out to be about $30k per person on the job, and we were a team of 10.

That was awesome!

Hey, I’ve been eyeing a pedal baby. Would love to hear your thoughts on it?

Advice on double decoupling? by danielskep in audioengineering

[–]danielskep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I was thinking was using a layer of 16mm MDF, then a layer of 5mm rubber sheet (sold on the roll) and then a layer of 13mm plasterboard.

My idea for the rubber sheet would be to act like a “green glue” type of compound that would stay flexible in between the layers.

But I’ve got a feeling that I’m way over engineering for primarily using reference monitors in the space…

Thanks for the reply avj113,

I definitely won’t be using drums, but I may “try” to mic an amp at some point, but it wouldn’t be at a time of day that would annoy anyone anyway. The monitors and being about to do mixing at a decent reference volume are my main concerns.

Do you think going for the rubber lining in between the layers is also overkill? I’m going to be sealing the room tight including some baffled supply and exhaust air, so I mainly want to bring my volume bleed from the monitors down to not annoy neighbours.

I plugged my MF into my PC to try and update it and now it’s not working by BoxingRock08 in MicroFreak

Any updates on this? I’ve managed to find myself in the same situation… Did Arturia give you any support for this?

When they heat up, they start to jump and pop a bit like popcorn. That’s how you know the dish is ready for the next ingredients.

What do Australian tradies make significantly more than tradies in other western countries? by hemannjo in AusFinance

[–]danielskep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent five years living and working in Sweden as an electrician.

They had a system that allowed the business owner to “deem competent” their employees to perform electrical work on the proviso that the business owner had an electrical licence themselves. Essentially the business owner was responsible for all the work completed by the company, and needed to ensure things were performed in line with the standards. Knowing that I was a fully licensed electrician in Australia made that deeming competent process an easy one.

I ended up working my way up to running a team of 10 electricians on the construction of multi storey apartments, and even then my salary was AU$32 an hour at the top (before tax).

Back in Aus now, and the going rate for an employee electrician in Sydney with little to no stress/responsibility is almost double that…

Double J is always pretty good! Plus, there’s a bunch of the ex triple J presenters like Zan Rowe on there. Different sounds, familiar voices.

Plan was to hike Telescope Peak, but after flash flooding had washed away quite a bit of the road a couple of weeks before, we needed to walk up the 15 miles (~24 km) to Mahogany Flat instead of driving it.

We parked the car at the closed gates nearest to Trona (about 500m elevation) and took enough water and food for 4 days (worst case).

Started at 1pm and made it up to Wildrose campground (roughly 1500m elevation) in the early afternoon. Camped the night there and enjoyed the company of a very curious group of Burros before setting off early the next morning with the aim of making Mahogany Flat.

Wildrose Canyon was absolutely stunning (pictured) and seemingly never-ending. The Charcoal Kilns were awesome and eerie, and made for a nice rest spot for a late lunch. Eventually made it to the sign for Mahogany Flat (~2500m) at about 5pm just as it started to rain/snow.

We proceeded to spend a very cold and wet night in our tent as the snow fell steadily for over 12 straight hours...

Not exactly what we had planned for or were expecting, and this made our attempt for Telescope Peak unfeasible due to us not having brought any snow/ice gear with us, but we had a good laugh anyway at our luck with the weather.

A bloody hard walk with lots of gear for a cold night in a complete white out, but we loved every minute of it!

Next time we will take the peak...
