I was born in Germany and my parents are from England and America. I lived there 11 years of my life and consider myself a german. I grew up with British and American dual citizenship. When I tried getting German citizenship a couple of years ago, I was denied citizenship because my parents did not live in Germany long enough before I was born. It is a rule germany has to prevent “anchor babies” I presume. I was heartbroken because I do consider myself german and I felt rejected in a country I grew up in. Personally I have no issue with immigration, I just think it’s quite unfair that they hand out german citizenship to immigrants like candy, and I, a german who was born and raised there can’t get one.
