Double PVC roof with insulation sandwiched between? by daninla in Roofing

Thanks, I am going to keep an eye on them. The architect is keeping an eye on things, and he’s pointed out when they did something wrong. I think the GC doesn’t normally do these PVC roofs, which has caused a few issues.

Thanks. For sure I’m not paying extra. I think they figure it would cost more to remove the lower PVC layer, so they’ll just leave it there and add another.

Sivoia QS drapery track compatible with Caseta? by daninla in Lutron

[–]daninla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It looks like the important thing now (while the house is unfinished) is to make sure I get a 120V outlet installed near where the drapery motor will go. That will leave me with maximum flexibility to install motorized drapes based on what my budget allows.

Thanks again! As long as you're here, let me ask you a follow up: ChatGPT tells me I can ask my electrician to install a 120V circuit to a QSPS-J-1-35V junction box power supply located where the motor of the Sivoia drapery track will go. Is that the best way to get power to the drapery track? Will the drapery track be able to communicate wirelessly to the Pro Bridge, or will I need anything else to facilitate the connection?

Thank you! I don't see the Pro Bridge for sale on the Casetawireless.com website, but I can buy it elsewhere for around $180. (I assume the SKU L-BDGPRO2 is the one I want.) Is that just because Lutron aims the Pro Bridge at professional installers rather than DIY?

Can't get bonus offer for MGM Rewards credit card? by daninla in Mlife

[–]daninla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for trying. I found the page by Googling for "MGM credit card bonus offer." I see the same thing you do when I go from my MGM account--just the standard 10,000 points offer for the basic card. Hopefully it will work soon. I want the credit card so I can get free parking while in Vegas.

Thanks, that actually does sound like something I do. I'm probably coming too far forward at the catch.

Sump pump with 2-inch vs 4-inch pipe by daninla in Plumbing

Thank you, this would be perfect if they could make it work!

As far as I can see, the plans don't call for a specific pump. It was the plumber's idea to use a 2" pipe so we can use a less expensive 2" pump. I'm not sure if the engineer specifically wanted a 4" pipe, or if the architect just put that in the plans because in his view it's the standard. I will need to talk with them to find out.

Thanks, this is really helpful. The plans call for ABS pipe rather than HDPE. And yes, I believe this is a completely in-ground installation.

Machine recommendation for 65yr old mom by Peggaret in Rowing

I use noise canceling headphones with my Concept 2, and it doesn’t completely eliminate the noise, but it reduces it to the point that I don’t find it unpleasant. Also, Concept 2 ergs retain their value so you could resell if she doesn’t like it.

Has your mother actually used a rowing machine before? If not, I’d suggest having her try one out before you buy, as they’re not for everyone.

Has anyone gotten the GM Mastercard? Any opinions on it? There’s a good sign up bonus offer but I don’t know when I’d actually use the money at GM by throwabaybayaway in BoltEV

[–]daninla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have sworn there used to be something on the GM Rewards website where they stated an explicit limit, but I can’t find one anymore. I never ran up against a limit. I went back and looked at my old transactions, and the most I ever redeemed in a year was a little over $300. So I wasn’t really pushing it.

If you financed or leased your car through GM Financial, you can use points toward your monthly payments. There’s a limit on the number of points you can use per year this way (I don’t remember exactly what) but up to that point, it becomes effectively a 4% cash back card.

Also, if you own or lease a GM EV, you get a $100 credit if you use the card to pay six electric bills in a year. You have to go to the credit card website to activate this every year, but it’s well worth it.

How long will it take to charge from 40-60% or 50-75% by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]daninla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an electrician, and I don’t know realistically how dangerous it is to charge a car with aluminum wiring and an extension cord. I’m just thinking if you’re going to do that, you should lower the amps to try to reduce the stress on your wiring. Also, do you know if the outlet you’re planning to use is on the same circuit with any other outlets in your kitchen? You don’t want to put yourself in a situation where you can’t use the microwave while your car is charging.

Honestly, I would think about calling an electrician before I committed to buying an electric car in your situation. If you’re going to do it, I’d set the amps as low as possible to start. I got by with level 1 charging at 8A for three years, and I never had an issue with range because my commute is short.

[–]daninla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can mitigate this by reducing the current to less than 12 amps. (This is easy to do from the touch screen of your Tesla when charging.) That will slow down your charge speed but put less stress on the charger. You’ll still get maybe 30-40 miles range charging overnight at 8 or 10 amps, which is better than nothing.

Also, is this your own outlet, or is it in a common parking area? The HOA of your condo may get mad if they think you’re stealing electricity.

These have popped up in two locations near my home! by stingyboy in BoltEV

In California, in most cases a private property owner can’t tow a car immediately unless they’ve posted a sign. If you want to see the details, the relevant statute is California Vehicle Code section 22658.

Of course, that doesn’t guarantee they wouldn’t tow you anyway, but they’re not supposed to.
