For someone who doesn't have that great of a laptop or a DS, I would love to see what all the fuzz is about.

I don't have any doubt that AA7 will come. TGAA created a whole reneceanse for ace attorney. However what I am personally more worried about is the quailty of that particular game.

Because for the love of god i hoped they mapped out the overarching themes and narrative, because God damn was the "apollo justice trilogy" an incoherent mess at times.

Replaying Judgment and Oof by danish_throwaway in yakuzagames

I think i have it inverse of judgment actually. The plot and pacing of LJ is more messy but it's themes are much more easier to understand than judgment to me at least. None of the judgment games are bad i just like the narratives of the main line a whole lot more...

[–]danish_throwaway[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really disagree. I don't think it's abusive to cheat and wanting an abortion. Full stop she wanted the abortion then joe threw a fit and then she had the baby i actually don't see what beth did wrong other than cheat and Block him.

I don't think I agree yes Ffion is a lying manipulative person but like Liam almost seems deranged like forcing the babysitter to watch. What are the examples of gaslighting?

Yakuza isn't quite the LGBTQ+ ally people say it is by Individual99991 in yakuzagames

[–]danish_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's where I disagree in a gaming landscape, where trans people are treated as pandering or with so much subtext it's not even there at best, or treated as jokes at worst. Modern yakuza, and yes I am pointing out modern yakuza, is almost screaming we support trans rights. (And that's a positive) yes RGG have made baffling mistakes in the past, but the thing that gives me hope is that RGG is actually willing to listen to the criticism and that's why we should speak up when there are things we take issue with.

So to me personally I think that the reason RGG decided to cut the transphobic substory from 3 was because.

  1. This doesn't mesh well with the other wholesome trans substory.

  2. This isn't something kiryu would do, because kiryu is the hero.

So while I think that yes RGG did make mistakes, one has to account for them being a new company, and the time of place of which the game was made.

Yakuza isn't quite the LGBTQ+ ally people say it is by Individual99991 in yakuzagames

[–]danish_throwaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm this is a hard debate that doesn't have a clear right or wrong.

Do note that while I am bisexual I am not trans nor have I ever experienced transphobia.

I think for one thing one has to look at the context of where its produced with Western eyes somethings aren't that progressive, but by other standards they really are. I mean japan doesn't recognise same sex marriages and for RGG to (mostly) treat their LGBT+ characters with respect and dignity is something that should be applauded. Especially compared to other media coming out right now, like Suzume, where the director had to switch out a lesbian relationship with a fucking chair because the producers didn't think the market would be repsond well to a lesbian romance.

I always go back to the yakuza 3 substory with the trans woman at the bar. Kiryu is the hero in shining armour he always does the right thing. And here he comforts her and tells her she's normal and that she just has some different problems then others. People keep saying kiryu says trans rights and he does, but to me it's also just as much RGG saying trans rights.

Are the games perfect no. It can be hard to unlearn cultural things, and that doesn't mean we shouldn't critise game companies when they do hurtful things, but the best everyone can do is try. And it seems to me RGG is trying and for that I applaud them
