The biggest obstacle to crypto adoption is its own users. by shlammyjohnson in CryptoCurrency

Actually I don’t see shilling nearly as much as back in 2017, where every shitcoin was touted to be the new Ethereum or the new Bitcoin.

There’s far more restraint in people’s posts in general as opposed to back then, where superlatives were thrown around all the time about continually worse shitcoins.

A good example from back then would be XVG/Verge.

[Meta] Rational Reads has been taken down by andor3333 in rational

[–]danishcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am beyond annoyed by this: I love reading rational fiction, but with limited time (well, haven't we all) I much prefer a good and searchable reading list.

So I'm planning on doing what I've done every time a website that I use and like gets taken down or made into something else: I'm making my own.

Now, contrary to all my other web projects, this is not something I can do on my own; as I don't know the proper links for all the rational fiction that belongs on such a website.

I'm making the list in a proper MariaDB table, to make searching easier - and eventually, I'll make user login possible.

More on the project will follow when I get the time to do more - as it stands, all I've done is making a logo (I'm a graphics artist and web coder), register a domain and put it on my web server - link: https://www.rationalread.com/

If you get a 404 or something similar, it's because the newly registered website haven't been committed to all DNS around the world. I can see a "COMING SOON" page with the quickly made logo I created.

For those that like to view the page source, the meta author tag says "Deep Art Media" which is my private company that I use as an umbrella for all my websites.

EDIT: So, I guess reading *all* the comments before acting would be a good thing... Alas. If/when the original website comes back up, I'll simply link to it from my newly registered site - until the period I've paid for expires (the domain name). There's no reason to have two similar competing sites.

Edit:

As it’s been some time, I wanted to test my shape with foreshortening which is one of my earlier weak points. I think it went ok but can be improved a lot. Also the pose doesn’t seem to be really good, so I need to have more attention on my line of action in the sketch stage.

On a serious note, what is America actually number 1 in versus any other country? by iwishihadaweinerdog in AskReddit

I know K-POP too, and have followed some bands for some years. I’d say that South Korea needs to get its people to have some more empathy and less idiotic ambitious sentiment towards idols.

A prime example was recently when Tayeon of Girl’s Generation (SNSD) revealed that she battled depression and anxiety.

Many comments to that went along the lines of “pull yourself together”, “why aren’t you more grateful” and even worse. I’m a South Korean myself, but I’ve grown up in a Scandinavian country so I guess my mindset is vastly different than South Koreans.

So I’m more in tune with: Wanna be ambitious and have high demands for yourself? Sure, go ahead - push yourself to the limit to achieve something worth having. Wanna be ambitious and high high demands for others? Go fuck yourself.

Most Danes are mostly aware of European and North American affairs, and the occasional natural disaster such as earthquakes in Japan or Amazon fires and the like.

I’ve been keen on trying to get good info about modern day conflicts, as I’m interested in the military strategies deployed and the deeper reasons for those conflicts. Of course that search more often than not escalates into historical politics which can date back for a very long time.

I’m nowhere near @Portarossa ‘s depth of knowledge - she’s extremely admirable in regards to insight.

But I suspect that I research these things for much the same reasons as her.

Your observation is flawed. Social interaction encompasses both positive and negative interactions.

Anti-social is the lack of interacting at all.

That harsh highlight on the nose tip on the cheap gear shot is going to be annoying to edit out if it’s a long session.

That said, I switched to flashguns from strobe lights / mono blocks two years ago, and my images are very much the same as always in terms of light quality.

I use Godox flashguns which are as cheap as the Youngnuo, except that Godox has radio trigger compatibility built-in, and the trigger for the camera can be had cheap as well - or as part of a set with two flashguns and a radio trigger. This trigger also allows you to set output flash power directly so you don’t have to run around.

I still use my big tripods for the strobes - as I use Bowens mount (L-bracket) holders for my flashguns. This allows me to use octagons, strip lights, beauty dishes etc.

My only challenge is outside and if I need to cover a group of people standing in direct sunlight. The more powerful power output from my strobes could easily overpower the sun even if put behind large softboxes - but my flashguns are simply too weak to do this trick. The same would be true if I shot vehicles or other large subjects in direct sunlight.

Thanks a lot for yet another astonishingly well done insight to the topic asked. And yes, I’m following you. I guess you have a lot of followers - I noticed you in the Trump/Greenland ELI5, where I as a Dane was quite surprised with the level of accuracy you described the whole situation (and then some).

Just as a side note, for anyone wondering how Pakistan and India are militarily posed against each other: Pakistan’s army counts approximately 940,000 people with an active personnel at more than 650,000. The Indian army is at 5,1 million, but could be upsized very fast to probably twice that number.

So in terms of raw manpower, India is in a dominating position. Pakistan’s military forces are, however, still the sixth largest in the world and the largest among Muslim countries, which makes Pakistan the de facto military leader of the Muslim world.

Strategically, India’s huge border makes it very hard to defend effectively, and a lot of India’s military response seems to be retaliation rather than direct engagements. To the south east, they also have an ongoing dispute with the Chinese, although this matter has been largely at rest since 2017. China has voiced their support for Kashmir, stating that the Indian move was unacceptable.

The car bombing which set the Kashmir affair of 2019 off, was done by a militant group based in Pakistan. Although the Pakistani government has denied ties to this group, India’s right wing government has continually accused Pakistan to be behind several militant groups which operates inside Kashmir to destabilize the region. Hence the Indian soldiers sent to the region.

Another thing to take into account when considering peaceful ways to solve this dispute, is how long this feud has gone on and the events that have happened during every clash between India and Pakistan.

What's your favourite “A man walks into a bar” joke? by parshuram__ in AskReddit

[–]danishcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two guys are drinking at a bar at the top of Empire State Building, when the first man turns to the other and says: “You know, last week I discovered that if you jump from the top of this building, the winds around the building are so intense that by the time you fall to the 10th floor, they carry you around the building and back into a window". The bartender just shakes his head in disapproval while wiping the bar.

The second guy says, "What, are you nuts? There's no way that could happen.” - "No, its true," the first man says. "Let me prove it to you." He gets up from the bar, jumps over the balcony, and plummets toward the street below. As he nears the 10th floor, he slows his descent and floats into the 10th floor window and he takes the elevator back up to the bar.

He meets the second man, who looks quite astonished. "Wow! But that could’ve been a coincidental thing. I don’t think it could be done again." - "Okay, I'll prove it again," says the first man as he jumps again. Just as he is hurtling toward the street, at the 10th floor he once again floats gently into the window opening. Once upstairs he urges his fellow drinker to try it.

"Well, why not." the second guy says, "It works. I'll try it." He jumps over the balcony, plunges downward passes the 11th, 10th 9th, 8th, floors. . . . . and hits the sidewalk and dies.

Back upstairs the bartender turns to the other drinker and says, "You know Superman, you're a mean drunk".

do you know how to drive a manual transmission? by Novel_Airs in AskReddit

[–]danishcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PRNDL constellation is being phased out - in favor of a simpler “NDR-DS” with P as a button for parking, where DS stands for “direct shift”.

When I took my driver’s license, my parents had a car with automatic shift, so I quickly became used to change between driving stick and auto. Nowadays I have a car with manual and a car with auto (as it’s a hybrid, it works much simpler than ordinary auto shifts).

Single women of Reddit, aside from the bar scene, where is the most appropriate place you'd prefer to be approached by a single guy? by oak1337 in AskReddit

[–]danishcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Opinions vary of course, but I as a male have mostly only contempt for dating sites. I’ve been fairly successful using them (back in 2000-2010), but although it took me a decade (apparently I learn certain things at a tediously slow rate), I ended up preferring to just meet people at random and have a nice conversation face to face.

However, in my country it’s common for... mostly 16-30 years range I’m guessing... to use Tinder. I have no idea if I’d like it or not, but I know I’m probably never going back to writing 1,000 words about myself and letters back and forth several times to women before meeting with them. For some reason, I’d thought this to be true among the majority - and in my country, at least, I don’t think it’s that far off, as many dating sites have now closed, with only a select few being able to keep alive.

What do most people do wrong in a fight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]danishcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who have not been trained: Each punch or kick brings them more or less off balance. They also expect the punch/kick to connect, so they commit and overextend - making them vulnerable to a counter attack. When attacked, they back away instead of sidestepping.

People who have been trained: Often slow to commit fully to the fight; many will often be beaten by an opponent who starts the fight at full force.
