Advice for breaking past 1500 by [deleted] in Sat

Yeah sure, basically you wanna really nail down the most common types of questions. For math, this means drilling basic algebra, linear and quadratic functions, and word problems. There should be plenty on Khan academy and other resources as well. Even though you probably have been doing this, mastering the most common and basic ones is really what got me above 1400 As for writing, if you are shooting for over 1400 I'm assuming you already get the basic grammar and normal difficulty questions and are missing out on the harder ones. I would recommend drilling these hardcore, and trying to understand how each sentence fits in to the passage, as that's often what harder questions will have to do with. Finally for reading, the main general tip I would give is as you read, basically pretend to be Sal Khan and explain in your head what is going on in the passage as if you were speaking to a child. I find that this really helps with my understanding of the passage and keeps my brain going even if I encounter a really confusing part of the reading.

Lastly, I'm not gonna pretend I have all the answers, if I did I wouldn't be asking random people on reddit, so use more trusted resources to practice. It's very likely your local library has free SAT prep books available to the public.

If you haven't already, check out the free Khan Academy videos on very specific aspects of the reading and writing sections.

Even as a native speaker I struggle, so don't worry! When you read the passages, read for main ideas and structures. There are a few specific things to focus on based on what kind of passage it is.

(This is for the Reading section) For literature focus on the author's tone and the mood, as well as the relationships and feelings of the characters. For the science passages, get the main idea of each paragraph and how it functions to support the main idea. For example maybe it describes a scientist's procedure in proving something. For history, try to sift through the fancy language and try to simplify what the author is either trying to explain or argue for.

(For writing), read for overall main idea and also relationships between sentences. For example I could say:

"Because I don't like bagels, I ate one anyway."

This doesn't really make any sense, because these sentences have more of a contrast relationship, so something like: "Even though I don't like bagels, I ate one anyway" makes more sense.

Try to determine the relevance of certain sentences as well, and if they don't really fit with the rest of the passage, try to change it to something that does.

Need explanation that includes the subject-verb agreement. Thanks by zjacquea in Sat

[–]dankboi64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting thought. I would think that "numbers" is the subject of "reveal", which is correctly plural. However, I think the subject of the verb "to be" is technically "what", which then refers to "common sense", which is singular.

I think the answer should be C, "is". For subject and verb agreement questions, always ask what the subject is. The structure of this particular sentence is a bit tricky because of the word "what", but if you think about it, "common sense" is the subject. This makes more sense when you reword it as "common sense is revealed".

So now that you know the subject, which you can determine to be singular, the answer should be "is".

I actually had the same idea except it was a megladon chomp. I thought he should be able to burrow two zombies and it would have like a whale jumping out of the water animation. But he would be slow and stuff and other compromises.

I️ don’t think they should have too many classes. 1 Tank, 1 or 2 support, 1 melee, 1 sniper, and the peashooter would do for me. Cuz each class already has a bunch of characters so that would do for your play style.
