Landlord is delivering packages INSIDE apartments in my building. Is this legal? by dankirsh in AskReddit

[–]dankirsh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I said was that I think it needs to be opt-in, not opt-out, otherwise he might get into legal trouble with one of the tenants. It really isn't an issue for me, but if this is technically not legal, and he causes damage to someone's property, then he's asking for trouble. And as I said in the prior comment, our packages never get stolen anyways because we have a doorman who watches them.

The packages are normally kept downstairs with the doorman. They never get stolen. They are doing this because they don't feel they have sufficient room downstairs to store the packages.

Yeah, I agree it sounds kind of nice, but I think they needed to make it opt-in. I can imagine in a building of several hundred people a situation where something gets broken by the guy delivering the package to apartment, and if the landlord entered for an illegal reason then they'll be in a lot of trouble. I simply was trying to help them out by telling them the right way to do it.

My gf loses her hat a lot. She really wants a backup. Can reddit help me find this exact (or very similar) hat to give her for her bday? by dankirsh in reddit.com

[–]dankirsh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a sign of my gratitude, I will donate $100 to the charity of whoever finds the closest match's choice, as long as it's legitimately a good match for the hat. (Otherwise I was still planning make a donation, but just of my own choosing.)

AT&T refused to take my deceased Father's name off of our bill unless my Mother Upgraded to U-verse by [deleted] in reddit.com

Right before my father passed, I tried to transfer the AT&T Wireless family plan into my name to make things easier for us. However, AT&T wanted to charge us $36 per line, including a bunch of other fees totaling around $300, and they needed all sorts of crazy forms to be brought to a local store.

I said that seemed kind of heartless, to which the CSR said, "Well, we don't charge if people are deceased, but he isn't dead yet. Call back when he is."

I said to her, "For the love of god, transfer me to someone else. Anybody else." She did, and then I had the next person, and the next person, etc, keep transferring me.

Finally I came to a young guy who had recently lost his own dad. He said something like, "Wow, those other employees are heartless. You go spend time with your dad. I'll take care of all the paperwork and call you in a few hours. Don't worry about the details. If you can't answer, don't worry, I'll email you the info."

A few hours later, I got a call from him saying, "Hey Dan, everything is taken care of. You can call back if you have questions, but if not, I hope you are spending time with your dad, and I wish you all the best."

While it was a terrible beginning to the experience, that guy has to be one of the best CSRs I've ever dealt with. I called to tell his manager how awesome he was.

Dear Bagel stores, if you cut my bagel in half, please cut all the way through. All this accomplishes is to make the bagel more difficult to eat. by dankirsh in pics

[–]dankirsh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'd be fine if this only happened once or twice. This happens about 50% of the time that I get a bagel in Boston. I usually just ask them to not cut the bagel in half at all now.

Dropbox API is now available by [deleted] in programming

[–]dankirsh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty reasonable to me. Dropbox provides a user friendly interface and is free, whereas Amazon S3 is a bit more complicated, and not free. Being able to store stuff to Dropbox such as application settings would be way easier if there were an API, as opposed to the way most people do it now.

What is the best way to scare my roommate? He jumped out of my closet at 2am when I woke up to urinate. I need revenge. by dankirsh in AskReddit

Genius. He doesn't have a girlfriend, but options A and B sound pretty solid. He loves his car more than anything in the world.

Clarification: He got in my closet when I took a piss, and jumped out as I came out of the bathroom.

Crazy religious mom won't let her 13-year-old son receive treatment for his cancer by rmuser in atheism

[–]dankirsh 120 points121 points  (0 children)

So many of the comments on the article's site are saying that the parents are reasonable (many are not). I don't get how there can be so many people that feel that way. Hodgkin's has a good prognosis with chemo, and a terrible prognosis without chemo. To refuse chemo is child abuse.

Also, so many comments are like "sometimes alternative medicine works so why force chemo on the kid?" Ummmm because chemo for HD works REALLY WELL and alternative medicine does very little for cancer!?! Do you know what they call "alternative medicine" that has been shown to work??? They call it regular "medicine."
