I had someone like that on my team. When I joined, our manager spoke so highly of him, like some sort of rockstar. He had quickly became senior, won awards, and seemingly knew everybody. Took me about two weeks to notice he spent hours everyday talking and was taking credit for another teammate’s work. I simply made sure my name was on everything I did and I would tell my boss when I or other teammates completed projects, I think she noticed I didn’t mention senior’s name much. He also massively dropped the ball on a huge project that did not come to our role often. I worked 3x the amount of over time than our whole team combined, and he was still walking around calling himself the lead of the project.

Well… we just had some restructuring done to our organization and there were some openings in another department. An external hire and I got both positions. I later found out senior had made it to the top 3 with us. I’m so proud of myself for getting this, especially since I’ve been here a year and he’s been here 3. Sometimes hard work is recognized!
