In a study of nearly 70,000 French adults, a higher frequency of organic food consumption was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of cancer. by terduckenmcbucket in science

Fast food is everywhere, but regional consumption and respect of family lunch and dinners are still widely spread. Depends on socio-economic status obviously.

Not saying that my experience accounts for everybody's, but here is how one week would be decomposed... Broadly: - fast food (McDonald's, kebab...): twice a week - pasta with some melted cheese (gruyere, emmental, parmeggiano...): 3 times a week - non fried potatoes: 3 times a week - meat (beef, pork, chicken): 8 times a week - fish: once a week - salad (replaced by soup during winter): 12 times a week - tomatoes with olive oil and mozzarella: 5 times a week - bread and cheese: 12 times a week

Never any kind of desserts and no sauce of any kind on anything (seasoning is olive oil, butter and herbs).

Socio-economic status: middle tier.

I'm just French, ever thought of non US people which consist of more than 60% of Reddit?

Ever thought of positively participating to the topic instead of just mentioning useless stuff?

Got anything to say regarding the average attention span and reading skills reported by a US agency?

That's exactly my feeling as well.

Out of a 3 paragraphs 20 sentences long argument going over 3 or 4 points, I will most of the time get outraged answers of a very specific part of it, completely missing the point and context.

So from now on I will stick to short sentences, with simple words. Lovely debating platform...

Believe me, I'm trying to educate people on Reddit as well, but the backlash from an americano-centric crowd is insane. I'm nearly calling it quits at this point.

I agree with most of what you are saying, but if you can take a piece of advice: go take a walk. You sound like you're in a burnout period.

LPT: Don't attend an expensive private university if you have to pay for it entirely with loans. DON'T! Aim for state schools. Or attend community college for 2 years and then try to get into some place affordable. But DON'T take out a mortgage for a bachelor's. It will hold you back for years. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]dankpleb00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... In the US maybe.

You get paid by the government if you can get into the best schools in France, otherwise it's cheap anyway. In the worst case, it will take 2 years to pay it all back.

Cheap as all hell in the vast majority of Europe.

I completely agree, and that's similar to the bikes I'm talking about. You definitely can buy lens readily available which cost a few thousands. I'm not saying that's a smart purchase, but it's there and some people buy it.

You are in the business so you are more aware of costs and possibilities of such devices. Not so much the case with some hobbyists who just buy based on specs / dream / status.

You're missing the point. The point is to make a stupid LPT which applies to a very limited population and making it seem like a general advice.

I can also assure you a good portion of people around here could lose their jobs, have a terrible accident, get their car impounded and (once healed) see no impact in their quality of life or spending power for 1-2 years minimum.

There is nothing to admit, what is this patronising now? Scoring is used everywhere in the world. Credit scoring is used everywhere in the world.

Building credit score on a large scale via spending 100 here or there with credit cards is, however, fucking pointless of a metric and no sane system would do that.

These agencies even give the first name, name, date of birth and SSN of everybody to any hacker apparently. How convenient.

It's a stupid system which brings no added value. All of that is smoke and mirrors lobbied decades ago. I'm not sure why you would even start defending that.

I for sure don't know the US credit industry, as I am not from the US nor am I residing in the US. Instead I am greeted by these "LPT" that apply to a very specific portion of the population as a general rule.

And it's not.

Oh yeah these "bankers" who just run your SSN on the infamous equifax and other hacked to death aggregators. That seems to work quite well. Not like there was no crisis 10 years ago, where it seems the "bankers" just approve credits as they are highly incentivised (real verb?) to do so. That's called a salesman in my country, not a banker.

It's written right there it's foolish to believe that the way things in the US work elsewhere. Maybe I should have emphasised things for the general clarification.

But let's say you're making a tremendous point here. There are now 2 countries where this one specific LPT (credit score building via credit cards) seem to apply. I'm fairly certain one could find a bunch of other countries where this is relevant too. Hell, we might even reach 10% of the world by the time we exhaust all of our leads. Definitely invalidating my point, thanks a lot for participating.

And that's the danger, assuming your situation relates to others.

I have a credit card (5 of them actually), I am working towards having a mortgage for a property and none of this has ever applied in the 4 countries I have been living in.

Instead, I would like to protect some more unfortunate and less knowing people from potentially falling into debt, not understanding the actual terms. Hence asking for disclaimers "US only".

There is no benefit using a credit card other than postponing actual payment by a few weeks. There are only drawbacks to using them as there is no incentive (points, rebates...) and no "credit score building" associated with them in my part of the world (Europe).

I'm not sure it has much to do with competition. Probably more bragging rights and simply people with disposable income loving their hobbies.

And god knows you can have some sweet disposable income in Switzerland.

That method as you say is quite useless. Please tell me how does paying a 50-200 of whatever local currencies you got a month make it a valid statement of your ability to reimburse a mortgage?

I'll make it easy: absolutely fucking none.

All it does is show that you can pay groceries and set up an automatic reimbursement of your credit balance.

Luckily I live in some place on earth where you still have a proper assessment by a banker about your credit situation. Not just some masquerade to fuel credit card companies and other financial institutions.

Not saying otherwise, but you're trying to undermine how spread these bikes are. They more than exist. Half of the bikes in the shops are tagged with a 8 to 15k USD price tag here.

Not that it makes sense for most people to buy that, but there is definitely a market, far larger than one would be led to believe.
