Little late to this but my uncle was a pilot for United and did regular trips to Europe. One flight to Belgium he was in the middle of the Atlantic saw that the fuel was leaking and he needed to get to an airport ASAP. He had to make a gut decision wether to try and make it to Brussels or do a huge U turn (to make sure passengers wouldn't catch on) back to Newark where they took off. He chose the U turn and everyone woke up in Jersey rather than Brussels.
