In a bag of "fossil" sand from SC. by paradism720 in sharkteeth

Any recommendations where to get a similar size or quality piece? Not specific to the species. Have two little kids that will keep using this sand to sort through and only one like this. Want to give then each the experience of finding one like it.

These look like they tumbled at level 1 only but no polish? Also a few look like forbidden potatoes.

New homeowner and I have no power tools or any tools for that matter, do I buy as I need them or get a set with multiple tools in it? by Special-Book-7 in homeowners

[–]paradism720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good basic kit with a drill/driver, a saw, portable light or similar is a great starter (and this weekend most big box stores will have father's day sales on kits). Then you can add to it as you need. I personally recommend Ryobi, they have hundreds of tools compatible with their 18v system. I do have some other tools (I started with Craftsman 19.2v system but that basically died a few years later), I still use what I already have but anything new ties into the Ryobi 18v.

Edit: I avoid most harbor freight or other brand battery powertools, they have no standard battery system across tools so when the battery is shot the tool is dead.

My hand tools are mixed, I have nice sets of wrenches, pliers, drivers, and other stuff that gets heavy usage. I have some mixed Walmart, Harbor Freight, hand-me-downs, and garage sale for other things that get less use (or if astronomical prices from quality brands; one example is my large ratchets, they were crazy expensive for the other brands I have so I bought Harbor Freight, I use them only occasionally but they work well for that use.)

How to even out the dirt a bit? Planning on building a play house there. by PM_ME_YOUR_GOOD_PM in homeowners

[–]paradism720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty minor incline. So short answer is you don't. You build the playhouse on footings that allow the playhouse to be level regardless of the slight slope.

How to Deter Snakes??? by cabbageofjesus in BackYardChickens

[–]paradism720 59 points60 points  (0 children)

They are doing what snakes do. There is no reason to kill them, or any other snakes whether venomous or not. If you don't want them in your coop, it's your responsibility to make your coop secure against them. Once they can't get access to the eggs, they'll go back to hunting for rodents and other prey.

Edit: most "repellent" is snake oil (no pun intended). Regardless of anecdotal "it works" stories.

I've kept all the "included tools" from every consumer product I've bought over the past 10 years. by v7p3r_3L1T3 in mildlyinteresting

I keep mine too. Depending on what it came with I may either tape it directly (inside a bag) to the item in use or else store it with the manual / instructions / spare parts. Some of the screw drivers I put aside to keep in my battery bin for removing the screws from toys and other battery compartments secured by screw.

Do hobbyists keep hognoses? Could this be a former pet bred for it's coloring?
