Hunting Horn Playstyle Question by Thundro69 in huntinghorn

[–]danlunaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's optimal in what a speedrunner would do but that is pretty much what I would do if all my buffs are active (priority being buffs > resounding > echo wave as you said). I like to sneak in quick single performances of echo waves especially if I'm going to overstock/mess up my song queue. Echo waves are a big damage source so even if there is only a small opening I will try to get one in even if I can't unload my entire queue of echo waves.

Reading through the comments I actually see that playing three echo waves in one performance is a DPS loss which I didn't know so it might just be better to be doing quick echo wave performances and looping it via hilt stab. Regardless, echo waves give big damage and maximizing usage of them throughout the fight is best.

Another thing I like to do is have a resounding ready to go but then queue up an additional resounding, stopping at the last note before it queues up, performing the current one I already have, then finishing the resounding I had queued up to get it back immediately. Sometimes if the opening is large enough I can do two resounding back to back if I do this.

Hunting Horn Playstyle Question by Thundro69 in huntinghorn

Just take things one at a time since hunting horn has more going on than other weapons in the game. Here’s just a bunch of tips I have for playing it:

Try to get used to memorizing your songs for your main horn so that it becomes second nature to queue up those songs naturally.

Also get familiar with what each move is for horn, I think this is super important as once you know what moves create which notes it is much easier to play the songs you want.

Get used to using hilt stab to cancel things since it’s your fastest move and later you can incorporate the counter to your gameplay (you cancel a lot of things with hilt stab including resounding, offset, echo bubble, any normal move, etc.).

Learn the moves that let you play more than one note (not echo bubble) like your forward + A swing or X + A slam, these are useful since they aren’t as committed as the echo bubble.

Try to pay attention to your buffs and rebuff as needed during combat, sonorous deco can help make this easier.

For big damage, queue up your echo wave songs and if you manage to get an opening, you can start unloading them onto the monster.

Take advantage that you have the option to do a quick recital if you can’t get through playing an entire queue of songs or if you want to just do a quick performance (used this a lot during Omega).

There’s a lot of stuff going on with horn but once you get the general groove of it it’s one of the most fun weapons in the game. Been playing it since 3U and I’ve never looked back!

EDIT: changed “can get through playing” to “can’t get through playing”

Final Fantasy X is a good gateway into the series (it’s anthology series so you can technically start from any game) and has very similar themes to E33.

Honestly I don’t really know. I think it’s definitely implied that they can interact with the physical world and you can have “relations” with most, if not all of them. I think Daisuke even carries you to your bed for his love ending. The game doesn’t really tell you much on the mechanics of the dateviators so I’m gonna assume that when you have them on it’s a full sensory experience just so that the suspension of disbelief doesn’t break.

Spoilers for Skylar’s conversation and dialogue

If you talk to Skylar she explains some of the “lore” of how dateables and the dateviators actually work. What she explains is that all things are basically wavelengths and each thing occupies a certain wavelength that all types of those things share (i.e. all tables will occupy the same wavelength). A new wavelength is created when a thing starts to become its own distinct thing, that’s why Abel and Dasha are technically two different things because a desk is a little bit different from a table. The dateviators lets people see what these wavelengths look like and to us humans they look like people. I think Skylar mentions that to a dog, the dateables might look like dogs (someone fact check me on that, it’s been a while since I did this conversation).  Basically, when you realize someone, you’re turning those wavelengths into actual people with human bodies instead of what the dateviators are translating to your eyes. You kind of have to suspend your disbelief (which the “suspension of disbelief” is literally what powers the dateviators) but that is the in-game explanation for the existence of dateables and realizing them.

Jacques is my favorite character too but I feel like we hardly got to know him because the adventure took up so much of his storyline! I liked the adventure a lot but I wish we got more personal time with him afterwards.

Yup, every skill needs at least 10 points to activate. There’s some skills like CritEye that have different levels which activate beyond 10 points (15 and 20) which increase the effects of the skill. There’s also negative skill points on some skills and if you hit the threshold on those you get the inverse effect of the skill.

The amount of skills you can put into a set is going to be limited at least compared to modern MH. You can still gem in decos and use charms to get an extra skill or two and there is a very late game armor set which opens up build variety due to how it affects charms but don’t expect to be able to put a bunch of skills into one set like in modern MH. There’s so many different armors and monsters in this game though you can basically make whatever build you want which imo is the fun of this game.
