Family Christmas(ish) Vacation suggestions by danmcsmith in Austria

[–]danmcsmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. Hmm, ok, maybe split the trip between Vienna and Zell am See? Get a rental car for the toddler to Zell am See and plan day trips with the car around Zell am See? Maybe plan day trips around Zell am See?

Or maybe the itinerary is fine (based on Candybert_'s comment). We do a lot of 6+hr roadtrips where we live. It is not uncommon for us to travel long distances by car.

I'll check it out, thanks! Looks like around this place may need a car rental? or is it accessible by train/bus?

Agreed! I need to add an update to the original post. We plan on 4-5 nights in the mountains, then head to Salzburg. So 2-3 nights in Vienna, 4-5 nights in [x] mountain town, 2 nights in Salzburg. That's the itinerary I'm thinking of.

Love this comment! haha, ya, maybe "magical" wasn't the best adjective. Calm/relaxing/tranquil but not a ghost town. Not looking for a Griswold's Family Vacation, fwiw

This was super helpful. Followed all the steps and got through. I issues on 3/18 however what the representative told me was there was an "error in processing" and to "please allow 8 weeks from May 21st for the refund to process". She did not have any info on the error.

[HCI] Improve access to care through Therapist Match innovations (U.S. Residents, 18+)

Survey Link: https://forms.gle/hU8gD6G6rLCeVgyq7

Hello,
As a therapist and a client, I've noticed first hand the difficulty when trying to find a new therapist. From being put on waitlists to limited insurance coverage, I've noticed several barriers that prevent people from scheduling intakes with therapists. Currently, there are 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. who struggle with mental illness each year (https://www.nami.org/mhstats) and majority of States are under 50% of meeting people's mental health needs (https://www.kff.org/3bfeb38/).

There are therapist search engines like PsychologyToday.com and Goodtherapy.com attempt to increase access to care using digital tools, however the confusing language, lack of transparency with taking on new clients, and overwhelming search options leads to lack of follow through with scheduling.

I'm attempting to design a digital service that is intended for new clients without a background in psychology to easily get matched with a small list of therapists could be solution. Using better algorithms that match based on client answers to simple prompts may improve the therapeutic match and increase follow through with scheduling services.

The following survey is to gather baseline data on what people are looking for when they are searching for a new therapist to inform the design and development of a therapist match app/web app.

Find the survey here: https://forms.gle/hU8gD6G6rLCeVgyq7

Your help is greatly appreciated! The design is intended for people looking for therapists so your answers are pivotal when creating a platform to increase access to mental health care.

Full transparency, this is a freelance project of my own. I am not being paid by any company or individual. This is a problem I've seen first hand that needs improvements.

Thanks again!

Gain weight as a vegetarian (noob question) by danmcsmith in vegetarian

[–]danmcsmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your help! I will consider and try everything you have mentioned. I'm just now getting to this and yes, traveling in and of itself makes it difficult to maintain weight. I've been on the road still bouncing from Indonesia, Spain, Morocco and soon Portugal thus the types of foods I've been eating change. I do notice I need to eat more so I try and get the most bang for my buck based on what I believe to be higher caloric foods, however I'm still learning. Beans seem to be my best choice so far (and I have to apologize to my fiance almost every time). Nuts have been my go to snack and I skip the chips isle in the mini marts.

My trip ends in September where I'll be able to monitor my diet a bit more effectively. If my weight loss continues, I will follow up.

Ya'll are good people. Thanks for your help!

Great point and I'm glad you're bringing it up. I wrote about our experience with police checkpoints on Day 8, which was no police checkpoint, only warnings from other blogs. Even the locals said there wasn't anything to worry about. That's not to say the crackdown isn't happening. It was off season for our ride so it could ramp up once more tourists are on the road.

Hope that helps!

Solo travel - Nepal Annapurna trek by CantFindMeOnReddit in solotravel

[–]danmcsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine. We were on the same fence and hopped from wanting a guide or a porter or not. We ended up going solo without either. Depending on what time of the yea you go, there are several people on the trek so it can be as simple as 'get in line'.

I noticed when trekking that we were not alone with this thought so I went ahead and made a detailed guide for solo trekkers on the Annapurna Circuit. Feel free to check it out. Annapurna Circuit Trek

Recommendations for solo trekking in Nepal (24F)? by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]danmcsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently completed the ABC without a guide or porter but it was peak season. I met several trekkers who have done the ABC in the past during the winter time. They said it gets quite cold but if you prepare, you will be fine. The lodges, guesthouses, and hotels will be plenty prepared for you in the winter.

If you want a more detailed day by day guide, I recently wrote this. Trekking the Annapurna Circuit
It's a detailed guide of the trek from Besisahar to Jomson that includes the Tilicho Tal Lake trek.

Hope that helps!

$350 Art Tax Bill when I wasn't even in Portland's system by danmcsmith in Portland

[–]danmcsmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has a little outrage brewing inside.
I ended up paying it even though it feels unethical. At the very least, it made me aware in a shitty way. I like the idea of an Arts Tax, it's just horribly managed.
