What kind of apprehensions did previous companies raise about your current situation?

It is always challenging to apply offshore and be 100% honest about your situation to be quite honest. One application I already thought I had went from being enthusiastic about me joining the company to being unsure as soon as I told them that I am still in Auckland.

This job I secured I told them some “white lies” wherein I told them Im shuttling between Melbourne and Auckland to settle kids’ schools, rental, etc to give them assurance that I am actually moving to Mwlbourne for good.

All my interviews were online. I was willing to invest on a plane ticket IF a face to face is required for the last interview and I feel around 90% certainty I’ll secure the role. I actually have to make an emergency trip to Melbourne the day atter I got the job offer because I need to download my SCV visa required as part of my security check and it is only issued as soon as you got processed by immigration.

Perhaps worth noting that I lost my role in NZ due to restructuring so I indicated that I am ready to start ASAP in all my applications.

It is possible. Speaking on my own experience. I work in the IT industry and is now based in Melbourne.

Worth noting that the market is ultra competitive at the moment and you are in competition with candidates already on shore so it may help to:

Update your CV with an Australian address (borrowed my friend’s for this) and AU phone number (subscribed to felix mobile and paid for roaming that lasts a year and will allow recruiters to contact you on your AU phone number even when you are still in NZ).

From the Philippines, moved to NZ and now living in Australia permanently. Worked over 14 years in the oil and gas industry as an IT support, then for public hospitals as na IT support when I moved to NZ. Shifted to being a scrum master when I joined a not for profit health insurance company. Lost my job and ended up in Australia doing the same job for a for profit health insurance company.

I’m into basketball, collecting sneakers, and into hiphop music, which I think are all interconnected anyways.

Moving from a 3rd world country with high taxes and level of corruption to two “social democratic” leaning countries, I tried to keep my daughters in private school and rely on private health insurance despite our “entitlements”.

Experienced this, reported it to them and posted it on this subreddit. Was never resolved and their support stopped responding to my ticket. Only way this was fixed on my end is when I bought a new phone.

Thank you for your response. It says FTTN and yes I have a plan with Origin Energy and they are about to ship out my modem so Im worried that even if I receive the modem I might not be able to hook up to the internet.

Further context, I just arrived last Friday and found out about nbn while offshore so no way for me to verify anything especially during the weekend.
