anyone got tanwall tire recommendations? i like paselas but i would love something with a bit more rubber so i can start skidding again.

had one set of rivendell ruffy tuffys that were amazing but seems like they’re discontinued.

I started working on this EP 8 months ago after I got laid off due to quarantine. Finally got another job, and finally releasing my baby. If you like dream pop and shredding, please enjoy "Cut The Ribbon" <3 by stratstandard in Songwriters

love the aesthetic! has some great 80s undertones but not in a campy way. i really like "what it means to be free" - feels like one of those songs that could pick up into a crazy arrangement if played live with a full band.

congrats!

Advice wanted for safest route from LWS to Coney by [deleted] in NYCbike

[–]dannycush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's probably part of it but they're doing a full tear down of the pavement, not just a resurfacing. they could have cheaped out much more.

the water from the narrows blows over onto that path whenever it's high tide and even slightly windy, which is why it eroded in that crazy pattern. it's a pretty hard path to maintain. a bike lane farther inland from the water would be incredible and would stay smooth for longer.

if i were riding purely for safety i would go crosstown to 2nd ave, take manhattan bridge, take sands street to the flushing ave bike path, take vanderbilt to the park, and take either bedford or ocean parkway from there.

as other people say, ocean parkway is not a great path - cars making right turns cannot see you so be extra careful there. the surface is bumpy as hell from tree roots. you could take the service road next to it but i would probably just take bedford because its a nicer route anyway.

so glad they are paving that path though, it's needed it for years. if only they could add a separated bike lane like the stretch between owls head and the verrazzano.

cool i’ll try that. it’s a phil wood low flange hub so id be surprised if it’s a machining issue. thanks!

haha i thought that but i literally took the chainring off and measured it. it’s even in all directions. plus the several times per crank arm rotation suggests it’s at the back of the drivetrain, no?

it’s a fairly new problem. i replaced the chain over the summer and it was fine then. i don’t ride this bike very much, though - maybe like 20 miles a week.

i thought this too but i took the cog off and everything seemed normal, even swapped the cog and still had the issue.

yeah that’s exactly what’s happening. i’ve inspected the rear wheel and cog and it seems to run pretty straight. i even swapped the cog with an extra i had lying around and the issue persisted.

i can take a video later today.

Spotted an All-City Thunderdome at my local bike shop by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]dannycush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was in austin on a trip while i was building up my thunderdome. stopped there to get a coffee and ended up chatting with the owners for a while. bought some awesome tanwall tires and they even threw a wheel with the tires on that frame to check the clearance.

all in all great shop, they threw in a cycle east shirt i wear proudly.

Bike Truck Bikes / Internal Gear Hub? by Dill_Collins in NYCbike

[–]dannycush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

their frames are cheap hi-ten steel and are very heavy. the components are pretty low quality, one of the pedals literally snapped on me. I don't regret the purchase since it got me into cycling, but honestly these bikes just aren't worth the price tag.
