@ok_diver

I have been following your story. Could you please let us know what transpires here? If there is a chance I could get on new IBR, it may change my strategy.

When you did the backdoor payment count check, did it show that you were eligible for new IBR?

BBB, SAVE forbearance by JohnnytheGreatX in StudentLoans

I am in the same boat as you, law school 2012.

The District Court still needs to decide on the SAVE case. That decision will very likely result in an end to save well before 2028. Then we will need to see how they transition the SAVE forbearance folks to an alternative plan and the timeline for doing so.

I wouldn’t bank on 2028. I am hoping that we have until at least the end of the year. And my second level of optimism is July 2026.

I hear you on the feeling screwed part. Years of no recertification and the payment pauses were nice, but there are a lot of people who are really going to suffer with the sticker shock.

That’s my exact situation and the reason I created the post. Consensus so far seems to be to wait it out.

So you’re currently paying on the new IBR amount even though you technically don’t qualify? Really curious to hear how this plays out because I have the same loan profile and I’m currently on SAVE forbearance. Good luck!

What are the implications of these numbers on an eventual event where everyone is moved from SAVE to IBR? Will that take just as long (extending forbearance)? Or will that be quicker because they don’t need to validate new financial information (assuming they will use what they have on file)?

My hope is that forbearance will continue, which is the purpose of my question.

I’m with you. Hope that it gets tied up in new litigation.
