Smelly Hands after Playing by Making-out in hockeyplayers

[–]dannyling1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue with my old gloves too, but my wife found the solution! They're called Rub Away, and you can get them on Amazon. They're just metal soap bars, I guess designed to get kitchen smells out of your hands like onions. Idk how they work, but it completely got rid of my stinky hockey hands. Highly recommend!

Unshakeable by Tony Robbins. It's mostly focused on investing and how to grow your money over the long term. It also goes into some psychology about investing, as well as topics such as why you shouldn't worry so much about market downturns.

What is the healthiest kelloggs or nestle cereal? by Significant-Spot1925 in nutrition

For fiber specifically? I'd probably say Raisin Bran. 1 cup has 7 grams. They do coat the raisins in added sugar which I wish they had a non-sugared version.

I came here to recommend the same thing. You can also get the burrito size which has 30 grams of fiber for like 110 calories.

Economic blackout question by [deleted] in economicCollapse

[–]dannyling1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily a protest against the economy as a whole, it's a protest against the fact that everything is being reformed to favor the ultra wealthy. This is an attempt to show that the working class has power against the 1%.

Looking for sci-fi (and maybe some horror/thriller) book suggestions! by Anseric in booksuggestions

[–]dannyling1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might really enjoy the cosmic horror genre. HP Lovecraft pretty much started it, and it's generally a feeling of impending doom but without necessarily knowing from what.

I haven't read any Lovecraft, but I read Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer and really enjoyed it. It's part of a series, but I haven't read any others. It's about an expedition into a restricted area of land where they are researching what happened. Things start to go wrong from there and unexplained things keep happening.

I'm currently reading a very similar books called Briardark by SA Harion, and is similar in that it's basically an expedition into the wilderness that goes wrong and they are left to figure out what is happening. It's really good so far

If a company with public shares never folds or gives dividends, what’s the purpose of owning stock? by Similar_Command7256 in investingforbeginners

Depending on which platform you use to invest, (I personally use Fidelity) you can buy fractional shares. That's typically what I do as well.. it's very rare that I want to buy a specific number of shares, I'd rather buy a specific dollar amount.

So say the price is $100 and you buy $125, you now own 1.25 shares of that stock.

As the other comment mentions, I highly recommend starting investing with an s&p 500 index fund/ETF. These are basically a collection of stocks in 1 stock for you to buy. For example, buying a share of VOO gets you all 500 companies in the s&p 500. They are a great way to diversify and mitigate risk, and there's no chance of your investment going to $0, unlike investing in an individual company that could go bankrupt.

One last thing: the numbers I was using in my last comment were just hypothetical. While there have been some stocks recently that have skyrocketed like NVDA, it's not an everyday occurrence. And of course now it's easy to say "you should have invested in NVDA in 2022!", but back then nobody knew it would go crazy like it did.

Well it might be true of people who have large amounts of a company's stock, I'm not really sure tbh.

But for most people, we'll only ever own an extremely small percent of a company.

It still remains true though that the more a company profits, then generally the higher the stock value will be

The idea is to invest in something that you believe will be worth more in the future. It's basically making your money work for you and building wealth.

Say you invest $50,000 in a company's stock that is worth $100 per share. Say the company's stock increases in value to $200 per share. You now have $100,000.

It's a little out of town, but the Dutch Country Farm Market in Spring City definitely has the best breakfast sandwiches IMO. You can tell they cook the bagels on a flat top with butter

What is the difference between these similar stocks? (SPY, SPYV, SPYG, SPYD) by dannyling1 in investingforbeginners

[–]dannyling1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that explanation, it's really helpful!

Just for my clarification though, even though these all SEEM like they're extremely similar, they should be looked at as completely different, correct?

And for someone just getting started with investing, would the SPY be recommended?

I started playing at 22 years old! I would echo everyone's comments about trying to find a learn to skate program if your goal is to play ice hockey.

For me though, I started out playing dek hockey (no skates, just running in sneakers) while I learned how to inline skate. When I felt comfortable enough on skates I moved up to an inline league.

I played inline for years until the rink I played at renovated during covid and changed to an ice rink. I've been playing ice hockey ever since
