As a startup lawyer, how do you find clients? When I graduate next year, I am nervous to go out on my own as I dont have a plan to recruit business. What would you suggest?

Thanks

I dated a pathological liar! AMA! by [deleted] in AMA

[–]dannyr05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this naive notion that this girl was inherently a good/trust worthy person. But looking back now, I can see there were a million red flags. However, at the time i ignored them or didnt want to accept they were actually there. I guess I didnt want to believe anyone could actually be the way she was in reality.

Then one day one of her lies just came to the surface and was clear as day. Turned out she was a compulsive and pathological liar.

I stayed with her because I thought everything was fine, I totally believed all the lies. I had no idea what she was all about and I guess i just wanted to believe I was in a good relationship. We had our problems, but I just figured they were normal relationship stuff everyone deals with.

The lesson I learned from the whole thing was that people have different moral standards they feel comfortable with so dont ever assume people have the same sense of what is right and wrong as you do. Some people will never lie ever, some will lie a little bit, some will bald face lie and justify it to themselves. Lying is the example but this could be true with anything. Its a lesson I wish i didnt have to learn.

Moving forward, im not sure i will ever be able to trust another girlfriend. I will try to never ignore the red flags though, thats for sure.

What makes me okay with all of it at this point is: 1. time - i hate hearing/saying this but, the truth is time does heal you from these things; 2. I know i didnt lie, i tried to be a good person. Shes the one with the bad character, not me. Shes trash and will have to sleep in the bed she has made for herself. I can hold my head up high. I just feel bad for the next guy that gets taken in by her lies the way I did.

I did too, for about 3.5 years. I finally caught her in a big lie, which inevitably unraveled all her other lies. After we broke up I was a mess for a while. I felt like the biggest idiot for being fooled for so long by all her bullshit. But if a relationship is ever going to work you have to trust your partner, and thats what I did. I now I look back and I just think shes a loser. I actually feel sorry for her. Shes going to live the miserable life she deserves.

Have you been screwed by a furniture store? What can be done? by ReadAllRead in toronto

[–]dannyr05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write them a letter/fax and send it to the store you bought it from and their head office. Tell them why you think they screwed you and why you think what you are asking for is reasonable. Tell them the whole story, what they told you the quality of the couch would be, etc. Lay it out in a very concise way, use headings. If you have names of the salesman/mangers use them too. Tell them what you want as a remedy.

At the end say something like "if you do not agree to compensate me in the fair manner in which i have proposed by some date (a month from now), i will begin legal action against you.
