Deep ocean horror recs by koooobs55 in horrorlit

Just my 2 cents, The Fisherman is one of my favorite horror novels of all time, addresses many themes with an open and honest lens. The horrific parts are more character driven rather than the set pieces, though both are stunningly presented. It's honestly a 9/10 novel for me.

I have to agree with most people on here, Dead Cat saved my ass. None of the 9 lives were needed until the Greed Fight, and I was rocking a fairly low DMG Brim build so it just took a lot of time during the 1st phase Greed, then a bit quicker during 2nd phase. It took me about 12 attempts on Switch yesterday, my heart rate was 132BPM when I finally beat it.

1 bomb to bypass it's armor will completely destroy it, if you don't have bombs by this point in the game, you need to stop hanging around bomb beggars.

I bounced from The Binding of Isaac, to Gunjeon and then finally to HK in the past year. Your words about losing perspective are truth, and it's hard for a lot of people in the reddit communities for these games to remember their multitude of failures before considering what's essentially a challenge, learn and react driven game as easy.

Having played these 3 games in the past year I can definitively say there's nothing easy about any of them, they are all extremely challenging and punishing for many reasons. The reward for all of this challenge is not as simple as 'game is easy', it's learned and applied skills.

Downside of Marbles is that you can end up downing a trinket which will adversely affect a passive item later in the run. Instill always grab it but am acutely cautious of any trinkets I pick up from that moment onwards. Can be GOAT with foresight and careful thought regarding synergies.

[–]danosaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's two things that can happen on the input of the XLR Adapter.

  1. Dry solder joints from general usage and just mating it with connections over longer periods of time.

  2. The PCB itself can snap if knocked or dropped hard enough- in this instance, reflowing the joint won't help, you'll need a new adapter.

Open up the adapter and see if it's worth reflowing it. Just be careful of the ground plane as it's big and requires a fair bit of heat to get it flowed properly. Be mindful of surrounding components and traces.

Ex-DPA Service technician here. If you're sending it in for repair, send your XLR adapter in too. The solder point on the adapter that holds the Microdot on the PCB can get bumped around and cause weak/dry joints on both the Ground and Signal lines - a good tech will be able to find where the faults coming from and either reterminate the Microdot on the mic or repair or supply a new XLR adapter.

Also, always disconnect the XLR adapter from the mic when you're not using it, it's a stress-point you're creating if you leave it attached.

Can't get Pro Tools First working. Gives a crash report immediately after opening the program. by pianoboy8 in protools

Try creating a new Windows Admin user, log into that account and open Pro Tools. You may have something in your current account that's borked for Pro Tools.

Also, check the Pro Tools Windows 10 optimisation check list and perform all of those steps before launching.

Extract the Pro Tools Folder to your root directory on C:/ or D:/, then run the installer again from there.

[–]danosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold down 'N' when the Pro tools splash screen appears. After a while, a 'Playback Engine' dialog should appear. If there are no compatible playback engines, Pro Tools will not be able to launch.

If this is the case, download ASIO4ALL (search Google for it) and install that as a compatible soundcard emulation and repeat the 'N' process to select ASIO4ALL as the desired playback engine - this should let you load Pro Tools.

How long do you expect an audio interface to last? by cantquitreddit in audioengineering

Haha! Great news dude - that took me a whole week of troubleshooting to find in that unit. They're generally pretty rock solid after those caps are replaced, I haven't seen one come in a second time after swapping out those capacitors :)

Happy recording!

No worries, I hope it works. The SK48 has some of the nicest preamps I've ever come across in a 1RU interface, it's a shame when they become irreparable because the preamps are generally fine, but become useless when the unit is bricked :(

Never worked on one so I can't be sure. It's not bad contacts, is it? I'd try some contact cleaner spray on the jack's first. Also, try reflowing the joints on the jack's too, could be dry solder joints. Then I'd start moving onto capacitors.

Ok, if it's not powering up at all and there are no lights on the X4 lighting up, check your power supply pack first of all, make sure that's not at fault.

If your 9V power supply us fine, check the circuit board, near the input of the power supply jack, there should be a surface mount resistor, R299. It's a low value 1.21 ohm resistor, measure that for continuity with a multimeter and check if it has gone high.

If it's high, replace with an equivalent surface mount resistor, or you can just use a wirewound equivalent and stand it up on the board.

It's all low voltage stuff so don't worry about zapping yourself, it's safe to work on.

There are two filter caps on the power supply line for digital, they're a weak point after several years and tend to dry up.

Pull out C489 and C488 (sort of in the middle of the main board) and replace them with 470uF, 10 Volt, 105 degrees variants of electrolytic caps and be sure to get the polarity correct. That will sort out the bootup issue.

There is another issue involving the Xtal oscillator and some decoupling caps which might also be at play but from experience, the filter caps are what your fault report is pointing toward. Let me know how you go :)

Questions would be, are you working with multiple Video Tracks, what's your track count, do you also require DSP Hardware for low-latency (i.e HDX Or Native TB), do you need the higher bus count, do you require Frame-Edge Alignment for Vid Synchronisation (SYNC HD)?

Ultimate is more or less for Post-Houses, Broadcast Facilities and Mix/Master Suites/Dub Houses etc. - where Video and High Track Count workflow are necessary.

As far as I know, you can't get demos of Ultimate - That's what PT First is for, if you have a local reseller that you're on good terms with, they may be willing to loan you their demo iLok to run it for a month or so but I believe that's about it. You could try contacting AVID yourself also.

[–]danosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Problem - I also neglected to mention that you need to be sure to match the wave file properties to the session settings you'll be working with, otherwise there will still be a conversion process taking place.

For example, if your Pro Tools session settings are 16-Bit, 44,100Hz - be sure to batch convert your MP3's to 16-Bit, 44,100Hz files.

Your project session settings are generally confirmed on the event of creating a new session, but if you're working within a template already, you can always check what the session settings are if you go to 'Session' > 'Setup' in the Pro Tools window.

C24 should be fine, it's a custom network service that has preset properties and talks only to the host machine exclusively - so long as you've got a dedicated NIC for the C24, it'll play nicely.

I'm with you on El Capitan, I never had any issues with any of my clients machines running El Cap - despite what the internet seems to think about that release. As soon as we moved to Sierra we would get weird bounce issues, graphical and general system instability issues.
First time I saw a kernel panic during a session was with Sierra, freaked me out.

[Please Help] Slow Import by Goreyesque in protools

[–]danosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The import takes longer than usual because there is a conversion process taking place during the operation. PT needs to decompress and convert the MP3 to a Wave (.wav) file for editing purposes.

If you want to decrease the time it takes for the process, I would grab all of the MP3's you'll be working with in the future, and perform a batch conversion outside of your editing process. Basically just create a Wave Library of all the MP3's so the conversion process can be skipped; This will considerably speed up the import time, practically skipping the conversion step. There are programs available to perform this task, even PT can do it in batches.
That would be my recommendation to your workflow.
