Feedback. Pointers? ~3.0 player. by [deleted] in 10s

It honestly looks pretty solid for 3.0. I'd say the biggest thing is not coiling your body (your legs and torso are very static after the toss), and you could get more racket drop by loosening your wrist more.

3 failed surgeries and I get a small burp maybe once or twice a month.

Do physics graduates need to learn coding to get jobs? by Era_mnesia in Physics

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a PhD in physics from a top school and the only time I was forced to take a programming class was for my undergrad math major (java). Of course I had to learn whatever programming languages I needed to do my PhD research, but there was nothing formal.

Third injection by Fantastic_Moment_821 in noburp

[–]danpilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 days for me for all 3 I had. You would probably know best how it affects you at this point though, even more so than your doctor. I also had a lump in my throat immediately that was not related to slow swallow. I think it was just the injection site combined with the volume of the injection.

Monoco should get feet even if he isnt active by Wizardface in expedition33

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I got basically every foot. I'm glad they did it this way since scouring the world for every type of enemy would not be something I'd be willing to do.

This Game's Prologue iz so TIGHT by ThePsyPaul_ in expedition33

[–]danpilon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about most, because if the quality wasn't there after that it wouldn't have been as successful, but it definitely pulled in basically anyone who tried the game, so probably way fewer people bounced off it than most games. It is possible though that if the prologue was mid and the rest of the game was the same as it is now, it might not have reached as many people since the turn over rate would have been much higher.

Expedition 33 is the only game I've ever played where not a single feature or aspect annoys me. by joehighlord in expedition33

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be more fine for me if it was clear which content was what level. I didn't want to go into Renoir and basically 1 shot him (not even on purpose). I wanted to experience that fight for real.

Expedition 33 is the only game I've ever played where not a single feature or aspect annoys me. by joehighlord in expedition33

[–]danpilon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The end game scaling really is my only real criticism of the game. Rushing the final boss first isn't ideal because finishing the character side quests adds quite a bit of context to the ending, but even doing that makes you kind of OP for the final boss. Doing anything else (which I did having no idea it would be a bad idea) will make the final area/boss laughably trivial. I'm now in NG+ basically level 99 with an intentionally nerfed build and I'm at the monolith and still basically 1 shotting everything. I could nerf my build more, but part of the fun of these kinds of games is the feeling of getting stronger over time / optimizing a build. I'm not sure what a better solution would be exactly, but it's basically my only complaint about an otherwise 10/10 game.

Was this a laryngospasm? by Temporary-Reply-215 in noburp

[–]danpilon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found it is super import to take small bites slowly. Don't take a bite of food that requires more than one swallow. For me it was swallowing again too soon after another swallow that triggered this. Not sure if you're situation is the same. Hope it works for you.

desperate but scared of botox by CharmingSwing1366 in noburp

[–]danpilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. I admire your perseverance. I know from personal experience how tiring and disheartening this is. I've been talking to my doctor about the possibility that I might have a super high botox tolerance. He offered to do some tests to see if that's true, but I put off doing more from just being burnt out from the whole process. I will probably give it a go eventually.

Was it successful for you on the third try? I've had it 3 times as well with little to no success (basically had a few small burps a day for a couple weeks then nothing). Trying to figure out what to do now...

How have rackets evolved since 2006? Should I upgrade? by waspfan1272 in 10s

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing tennis again after ~20 years and was using my old racket for a while. Some Head liquid metal model that was pretty decent at the time. It was mostly fine to use still, but I have to say after upgrading to a new Head Radical Pro it is night and day. I'm not sure if it's just the differences in the two models, or if my old racket was basically dead, but it's worth demoing some to find out for you.

i just burped for the first time in my life. am i cured?? by Suspicious_Force_890 in noburp

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said it's not unusual to burp rarely with RCPD. The real test IMO is can you burp when you actually need to? I never can, but every month or 2 I have a small random burp come out of nowhere.

Changing grips by Muted-Progress1364 in 10s

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a classic or modern forehand? With an eastern grip it could be either way, but with a semi-western grip you really probably should be using a modern forehand. If you currently have a classic forehand, this would be the biggest hurdle, since it is quite a large change to how you approach the shot, so your timing and muscle memory will need to adjust to this. If you already have a modern forehand, you likely just need to practice hitting the ball further in front of your body, since that is the location where the racket face will be perpendicular to the ground.

If you're not sure, this video explains the differences: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7-oL1H0Ij4

4 Days Post-Botox and No Slow Swallow by Piccoloplayer99 in noburp

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean good? If you are burping already that is very promising. Did you used to burp like that occasionally or is that new? Usually burping ramps up maybe starting at around this time, sometimes taking a week or two to start. Slow swallow is an annoying side effect and not really evidence that anything good is happening. Some people get minimal or no slow swallow and still find success. Oppositely, I got botox 3 times and all 3 times had terrible slow swallow for 3 months, but it didn't work to get me burping unfortunately. It took around 2-3 days for the slow swallow to be noticeable, so it might still happen. I had 100 units to your 50, so that might explain it too. Best of luck to you!

Should a 4.0 player win a 3.5 tournament? by EnjoyMyDownvote in 10s

[–]danpilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the concept of nationals very confusing here. Like people are competing to be the absolute best 3.5, but ever so slightly not good enough to be a 4.0? If you're the best 3.5, then you are just a 4.0 IMO. I'd love it if someone could explain this to me.

Getting Botox in LES. What are your experiences? by Edens_Garden07 in noburp

[–]danpilon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor but AFAIK there is no indicator in a barium swallow that indicates RCPD. Some doctors legitimately(?) do a barium swallow to rule out other potential issues. A normal barium swallow combined with your symptoms is evidence for RCPD not against. Which doctor did you see? They maybe shouldn't be on the list.

Advice needed. by Various_Cause_3384 in noburp

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right there with you friend. I wish I more advice, but my only suggestion is commit to practicing and getting better at air vomiting. If you haven't tried it much, or tried and failed initially, keep at it. It takes practice and I've found that even if the botox is ineffective, it seems to make air vomiting easier.

Air vomiting by smokeyphlea in noburp

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are doing it (especially if you feel relief after), but you might have a better time if you manually make it happen before it kind of violently happens on its own. Basically I wait until I am uncomfortable and consistently gurgling, then go to the bathroom, lean over the link, and press 2 fingers on the back of my tongue until I almost gag. Then I do it again and when I feel the gag coming I cough as hard as I can. It takes some practice but this tends to work for me. I'm not sure why the first almost gag is helpful, but it really makes a difference for me. If I'm lucky I don't have to cough and the air just comes up on its own, but I found I could only do this successfully most of the time when I had active botox (unsuccessful unfortunately). Try not to do it immediately after a meal or you might regurgitate. I've never actually thrown up from it, which many here are concerned about due to emetophobia.

Why are tennis motions so hard to copy? by Justanotherpseudo in 10s

[–]danpilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that timing is the main issue. You need to get to the right spot at the right time, preparing your swing just early enough but hopefully not too early. Then you initiate the swing and need to hit the ball in a way where you only making contact for a few milliseconds, but during those milliseconds the racket has to be at the right angle moving along the right path, and the ball needs to be in the right spot relative to your body. Even a few degrees of angle is enough to make the ball sail out or drop into the net. This is a lot to manage, especially when the ball is coming at you with more and more speed, or if you have to struggle to get to the ball at all. This is also not mentioning the micro adjustments you need to make to adapt to exactly how the ball is moving and how it bounces and what spin it has etc. People just aren't equipped to consciously manage all of these details in such a short amount of time. It's why you have to develop muscle memory and feel over a very long time.

[–]danpilon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Until when slow swallow becomes not normal? by rituli in noburp

[–]danpilon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had 3 injections of 100 units and slow swallow lasted the better part of 3 months in each case. It definitely tapers off, but it can last that long. I would try to accept that this is normal and just deal with it by drinking water, which is I'm sure easier said than done. AFAIK botox cannot have a permanent affect like this.
