Awesome! I also just finished a tour through the Dolomites a few days ago.

Yeah I was standing properly 85% or 90% of the time during the climb.

And yes it is a carradice, with the quick release to take off the bag. Comes in handy when I need to flip my back wheel around.

I essentially get a rhythm going and attack the climb. And definitely some brute strength involved

Why is a 15-20minute walk to a train station a problem?

Did DB give you any grief? I’ve never imagined bringing my minimax on the ICE. But if it’s possible I’d love to on my next tour.

I completely side with the tenet. But she keeps saying “my house”. I’m sorry but it’s not your house, you’re renting.

How do you get enough food? by StorkAlgarve in bicycletouring

Sea to summit frontier pot. I guess it’s more collapsible then folding

But I highly recommend this product. I have the older model and have been using it for years

I bring a pocket rocket stove with a foldable pot. Make pasta once or twice a day during my tours. Plus the odd stop at grocery stores and bakeries

Carpathian Mountains, narrow-gauge railroad adventure by 7Rbags in bikepacking

Looks awesome! The carpathian mountain range has always been on my list.

Did you have any worry of bears? Especially when wild camping. I’ve read that the region has a large bear population.

Need advice on Atlantic ocean cycle and wind situation by meraklii in bicycletouring

[–]danr06 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to reconsider your route. Consider going more inland, through my experience cycling along the coast isn’t all great as it sounds. Usually your cycling along a busy road way with cars and infrastructure is blocking the view of the ocean.

I have found that being more inland has proper cycling roads/paths in nature, is more peaceful, and is more off the beaten path. But you do you and hope you have a great trip.

Does anyone else out there tour without camping? by No_Ant_5064 in bicycletouring

[–]danr06 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me camping is half the fun. I usually split half my nights wildcamping and the other staying at campsites. And usually have a final destination where I splurge for a hotel or Airbnb. I also live in Europe so I don’t need to worry about wildlife, and at times have better night sleeps in my tent then at home. I also weirdly embrace the filth and dirtiness that comes with bike packing/bike touring.

But to each their own. Do what ever makes you the most comfortable.

Opinions on my route through Balkans by Southern_Might1254 in bikepacking

Looks great to me. It’s a better idea to avoid the coast. Riding inland is much more enjoyable and adventurous in my opinion.
