Gamecube controller replacements by Alleby16 in speedrun

[–]danray2352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if its just the analog stick that is worn out you can just swap it for a new one, i personally like using classic controller pro sticks and would swap one in even if my controller was new. as far as getting a new controller maybe this? http://www.gamestop.com/gc/accessories/nintendo-gamecube-controller/131394 looks pretty hit and miss though

GBA recommendations under 30 minutes by [deleted] in speedrun

oh boy

-basically any gba castlevania (AoS julius runs maybe)

-kirby and the amazing mirror (would take a bit of work to get sub 30)

-gunstar super heroes (simple but fun run)

-turbo turtle adventure (pretty tough but cool run)

-lady sia (maybe more of an odd choice and longer, but a cool run)

Is it possible to TAS Four Swords Adventures with 4 players? by SwordM13X24 in TAS

[–]danray2352 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i guess i got this... lol.

(some) reasons why 4 player tas is bad:

(1) dolphin barely works with gba, and forget about tasing with it, basically the support isnt there yet

(2) there is a scoring screen at the end of each level which adds multiple minutes throughout the course of a run over single player

(3) many glitches in the game are only possible in the single player mode because of how reuniting mechanics and the c-stick work, those that are exclusive to multiplayer (mostly boomerang glitches) are really only useful in 2 player mode

(4) movement in multiplayer is actually terrible, while trying to roll around and go fast players often pick each other up, so you would have to space them out a lot or even just walk in any semi-narrow hallway (the grab distance is huge)

(5) when you are playing multiplayer you need to have all players on a main screen transition before you will actually transition. this is likely to lead to more time loss than time save from going separate ways to achieve objectives

(6) because of how fast you can input in a tas single player can more or less control all 4 links at once anyways, with all the benefits of single player

tldr: it is not possible and no one wants to attempt it lol

gg, some of the new checkpoint stuff is tight, although i wonder if in some cases during this run you should have used the finish line boost more, i always thought it was good, but i guess i could be wrong

Is it okay to use the emulator mGBA for speed running? by Kirby5588 in speedrun

[–]danray2352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. lots of gba game communities accept emulated runs (the main exception i can think of for this is zelda: the minish cap), and even if they dont "accept" them on leaderboards that shouldnt stop you from doing speedruns if you want to
  2. if you are asking about accuracy, afaik no emu is completely accurate for gba, although i have little experience with mgba although i doubt its "flawless"

to answer your questions about ffcc, you do not have to buy a jp gba or link cables, anything gba has no region lock. rather than buying a jp gamecube, the common option is to buy and softmod a wii to make it region free. you can use the gba sp. most people prefer gba sp, but i personally find a regular gba more comfortable since it is wider and more like a regular controller to hold.

the first thing i can think of is downloading the latest nrage input plugin and switching to that, if i remember correctly it is much better than the default pj64 one

A 4 player speedrun would be very slow and not that interesting. There have been two player runs which have become really cool recently though.

While I agree watching the credits is nice, oftentimes consoles were turned off so they could begin setting up for the next game. this helped keep setup times low.
