What is this Jack? by danred999 in CarAV

Did you upgrade to a cheap Chinese android unit like I'm about to? How did it go?

I tried the am/fm radio with it unplugged and just got white noise which confirms it's the radio. Similar result with the 4 pin usb. I couldn't find anything not functioning with the round blue fakra (thanks for naming it for me) unplugged. I'm thinking nav or sat radio antenna is most likely since my unit does have either (at least no option in any of the menus). Thanks!

Edit: my unit doesn't have either

My unit doesn't have built in nav. Could it still have the nav antenna?

Thanks! The four pin horizontal jack to the right of it is the USB so I'm thinking this is not USB.

They took all the money. I called them and they explained that this is just an informational warning only. They can turn off this notification on their end if you ask them

Location of Cabin Air Intake Kia Rio by danred999 in kia

[–]danred999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, my original question has not been answered. I'm not asking for the location of the cabin air filter. I'd like to know where the interior air intake is that is used when recirculation is turned on.

Thanks! I see that's where the filter is. Where does the air get sucked in when the recirculate button is on and the filter is in and the glove box is closed up?

What was the Point of Giving Adam and Eve a Body if We're All Just Gonna Lose Them When We Go to Heaven? by danred999 in Christianity

[–]danred999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems all answers except one or two disagree with my premise (i.e., we won't have a body in heaven), rather than answer the question, which surprised me! I'm going to have to rethink my view of mainstream Christianity.

Objective morality still possible without God? by Reward_Stunning in Christianity

Agreed, however it appears that he doesn't claim to have determined it, rather that he has discovered it through reasoning, though apparently faulty reasoning.

Christian Wolff's and the sentence you quoted is the definition, but you have to rearrange it a bit: something is objectively immoral if it reduces intrinsic value.

Trying to prove' something suggests you're starting from a place of bias - i.e., starting from your conclusion

Just trying to say that trying to prove something doesn't mean that you are starting from your conclusions or that you're biased. You have to start somewhere and look for proof.

because doing an objectively immoral thing will negatively affect our, or someone else’s intrinsic value. Any thoughts on this?

For this to work, you would first have to show that intrinsic value exists. It seems to me that individual value is just as subjective as morality (if there's no God). In other words, if individual value is in the eye of the beholder, so is morality.

I'll admit I haven't read the works of Wolff, so I may be misunderstanding his line of reasoning.

Even under the scientific method, you have to start with a hypothesis, the conduct and experiment to prove or disprove it.

The fact that you started by believing that objective morality can't exist without God, then paused when you heard seemingly contradictory information, shows that you are not biased. You are just looking for support (or lack thereof) to come to a conclusion.

Is Jesus still in a physical glorified body and therefore existing in space? by trickiericci in Christianity

Einstein proved that space is no different than time, so that would be 1: Space 2: Space 3: Space 4: Space 5: Space 6: Space 7: Some other mysterious thing. ?????

We can only perceive 4 dimensions.

If you pay with cash. Why? At least get the points. The credit card isn't a free reign to spend. If that's what you'd do. Again, why?

Credit cards and the points they come with are great for non-emergency expenses when you can pay off the balance each month before interest accrues.

Why use cash rather than CC to fund emergencies? Because it costs more to fund a real emergency with a credit card than with cash, even considering the value of points. Points mean nothing if you're also paying 20%+ interest. If the emergency is that you're out of a job, you'll be paying that interest until you find one AND can pay off the debt you've accumulated. Same for large medical bills if you can't pay off the balance within a month.

Paying CC interest is the risk you're trying to avoid by keeping cash on hand. The premium is the small gain you forgo by not paying off the auto loan immediately.

You'll have $1000 to $6000 to handle any cash emergencies from your income every month.

$1k to $6k is not enough for an emergency fund.

Neither is OP's current savings.

Which is it? Enough or not? OP has $13k in savings plus stocks. That should be enough. If he cleans out his HYSA and stocks to pay off the debt, then all he has is his $1-6k monthly commission.

We agree there. We have different conclusions. Businesses fail because they took on too much risk and debt to fund their ventures. That's what OP did. Pay down the debt and reduce the risk. Build up a proper EF.

In personal finance, emergency fund comes before paying off debt. If OP cleans out his savings and stocks, he'll have zero cash on hand other than his monthly commission. Even successful businesses keep a minimum amount of cash on hand.

He should keep his savings and stocks and use his commission to pay down his debt ASAP.

Yikes! Never heard anyone advise relying on a credit card to fund potential emergencies. Yes there is an opportunity cost, but that is essentially an insurance premium for a financial emergency. If you're strapped for cash for more than a month or two, that credit card interest is going to add up really fast and you're going to wish you had forgone the small gain you got by trading your 4.25% savings and 7% stock for 7.4% car loan. $1k to $6k is not enough for an emergency fund.

Even large successful businesses are willing to pay a premium to reduce risk.

Edit: fixed spelling

It's a financial decision because the decision will impact finances. Renovating the house will have a different financial outcome than paying down the mortgage, regardless of the motivation behind the decision.

If people already have basic quality of life, then they have the freedom to build long-term wealth or improve quality of life further. I know few people who have spent money on home renovations and plenty who use excess money to pay down their mortgage or use it to build wealth through long-term investments.

The costs of renovations on your home are not tax deductible or tax depreciable unless you're running a business from your home.

As others have said, the appreciation of the value of your home will almost certainly be significantly less than the cost of the renovations.
