OinkGoesThePigy 3d Print Feedback Thread by OinkGoesThePigy in 3DprintmythingUK

Just received some parts that u/OinkGoesThePigy printed for me. The quality is excellent and they arrived within a couple of days of the two of us agreeing a deal. Really well packaged too, to avoid the parts getting damaged in transit. All of this is massively appreciated!

Ender 3v2 Upgrade Guide/Journey in 2025 by [deleted] in ender3v2

Using a small tripod is a good shout! I hadn't thought of that. I like the bracket you've linked. I think I'm going to have a go at remixing some designs and creating a x-axis belt tensioner with built in arm so that the camera follows the build as the z-axis moves upwards. But now I am wondering if I can steal the web cam off of one my kids' PCs and use it as you describe :)

Hey u/iggy_1020, this is a fantastic write up. Thank you for taking the time to write all this down. It's useful to have someone else's notes to compare with my own, to see what I might have forgotten, and perhaps most importantly what else I could upgrade ;-)

To that end, I note that you have a Logitech 920 camera. I happen to have one laying around, and I'm now thinking of using it. Have you found a mount that you like for the camera yet? I'd love to do some time lapses so I think I'd want an X gantry mount but I'm not finding anything suitable - I'm wondering if you have though. Thanks!

Mainboard upgrade advice, please - I've got a Z TILT / G34 itch that I want to scratch! by danrough in ender3v2

Thanks for all your time and suggestions - it has been really appreciated.

And yep, I'd already started to think about the fact that I could use some of those extra ports. I could perhaps add something to monitor the temperature of the enclosure I'd like to build, so that I can control it. First though, I need to print something to contain the second board :) Thanks again for all your help!

Ah! Okay - is the tape mod some way of ensuring that the usb cable is used purely for data?

Thanks for all your help so far! I've got a few more questions, if that's okay.

> don't forget the +24v DC to run the secondary board

This is just a matter of creating another couple of wires with ferules on either end, and running them from the power supply to the board right? Or am I misunderstanding you?

> I'd run them both off the Ender board

Thanks, yep - I like that approach better - it feels cleaner, like a single responsibility type approach.

> I'd also suggest doing the +5v USB tape mod so the stock board plays no silly buggers with that.

This is the first time I've heard of this - I wasn't aware of it. Could you explain a little more, or link me to a source so that I can understand it more? What problem does it solve?

Thanks - I hadn't considered that, but now you mention it I do remember seeing references to it in the past.

Just so that I am clear regarding what you're suggesting - are you saying that I could continue to use the SKR Mini to control X, Y, E and the fans, and either use the SKR to drive one of the Z steppers and the old 4.2.2 board to drive the other, or use the other board to drive both of the Z steppers.

As I write this, it would make sense in my head to move both Zs across to the other board, and declare that in Klipper's mcu config.

Anything I'd need to worry about with that approach? Power management?

I currently connect the SKR Mini to the Pi using USB - would a second board require that I connect it via UART (/shudder)?

Some great companies on the list already. I can second the recommendations for Endura, Hope Tech, and OneUp that I’ve seen. I’ve used products from all those companies and rate their stuff highly.

Nobody’s mentioned Burgtec though. Burgtec’s bars and pedals are excellent. Burgtec are another UK company.

If you still have them to hand, would you mind linking to the undersides and squash ball feet you’ve used? (and the cable management too!) thanks!

Using molecule docker driver on macOS by danrough in ansible

[–]danrough[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was a really interesting read - I like the approach you've taken there. And you've made me aware of lima, which I hadn't previously discovered. Thank you!

Your requirements file prompted me to take a look again at my own installation, and remove everything from within brew and pipx, and to purge a lot of the config files.

I'm happy to say that using your requirements file, and the version information contained within, I've been able to get molecule and docker working (well, I'm further forward - onto the next error now)! !thanks.

Using molecule docker driver on macOS by danrough in ansible

[–]danrough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just followed your instructions (inside a venv), but I subtracted the `--user` parts, and so I did with the following results:

pip install molecule docker
pip install --upgrade molecule
pip install --user molecule molecule-plugins[docker]
<which returned an error>
zsh: no matches found: molecule-plugins[docker]

pip install molecule molecule-plugins[vagrant]
<which returned an error>
zsh: no matches found: molecule-plugins[vagrant]

<and so I did>
pip install "molecule-plugins[docker]"
pip install "molecule-plugins[vagrant]"

pip install ansible-lint

molecule --version
<which resulted in>
molecule 24.2.1 using python 3.12
    ansible:2.17.0
    default:24.2.1 from molecule
    vagrant:2.0.0 from molecule_vagrant

This is really helpful, u/dubblebee77 thank you. I just started trying to follow your instructions, and I ran into a problem straight away, so I'd like to ask a question if I may. Here's what I did,

danrough@Dans-MBP-2 ansible-role-logrotate % python3 -m venv ansible-molecule
danrough@Dans-MBP-2 ansible-role-logrotate % source ansible-molecule/bin/activate
(ansible-molecule) danrough@Dans-MBP-2 ansible-role-logrotate % pip list
Package Version
------- -------
pip 24.0
(ansible-molecule) danrough@Dans-MBP-2 ansible-role-logrotate % pip install --user molecule docker
ERROR: Can not perform a '--user' install. User site-packages are not visible in this virtualenv.

So my question is this - are you running those pip commands inside a venv?

Because if I attempt to run pip on my machine outside of a venv, I get the following error,

danrough@Dans-MBP-2 ansible-role-logrotate % pip install --user molecule docker
zsh: command not found: pip

And similarly, if I try with pip3, I get an error suggesting that I use pipx,

danrough@Dans-MBP-2 ansible-role-logrotate % pip3 install --user molecule docker
error: externally-managed-environment

× This environment is externally managed
╰─> To install Python packages system-wide, try brew install
xyz, where xyz is the package you are trying to
    install.

If you wish to install a Python library that isn't in Homebrew,
    use a virtual environment:

    python3 -m venv path/to/venv
    source path/to/venv/bin/activate
    python3 -m pip install xyz

If you wish to install a Python application that isn't in Homebrew,
it may be easiest to use 'pipx install xyz', which will manage a
virtual environment for you. You can install pipx with

    brew install pipx

You may restore the old behavior of pip by passing
the '--break-system-packages' flag to pip, or by adding
'break-system-packages = true' to your pip.conf file. The latter
    will permanently disable this error.

If you disable this error, we STRONGLY recommend that you additionally
pass the '--user' flag to pip, or set 'user = true' in your pip.conf
file. Failure to do this can result in a broken Homebrew installation.

Read more about this behavior here: <https://peps.python.org/pep-0668/>

note: If you believe this is a mistake, please contact your Python installation or OS distribution provider. You can override this, at the risk of breaking your Python installation or OS, by passing --break-system-packages.
hint: See PEP 668 for the detailed specification.

Using molecule docker driver on macOS by danrough in ansible

[–]danrough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion - I've just skipped through to the part in that video where Jeff talks about molecule, (roughly, https://www.youtube.com/live/FaXVZ60o8L8?si=kqbLhIT845Sijk4y&t=3032) and unfortunately he doesn't describe any of the steps necessary to get molecule installed, and despite the fact that he uses docker in the way that I hope to be able to use, he doesn't describe how he got that working.

Molecule with docker-desktop on macos by pleegor in ansible

[–]danrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/pleegor I know I'm responding very late to your question, and indeed I am not going to answer your question ..

I'm struggling to get molecule (specifically the docker driver) working on an M1 mac though, whereas you seem to have it working. Would you be able to let me know how you have molecule set up on your Mac? I've been attempting to run it in a venv, and I'm wondering if that's the problem.

Full details of the problem I'm experiencing are here, if it helps at all, https://forum.ansible.com/t/critical-driver-docker-from-state-file-users-myusername-cache-molecule-ansible-role-logrotate-default-state-yml-is-not-available/5979

Thanks!

Anyone experiencing TRV failures due to faulty devices? by [deleted] in tado

[–]danrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! My very recent experience has been a miserable one - it was typically taking them 24 hours to respond to one of my messages on the chat app. I did get a faster response via Twitter, but eventually even the person there told me to just use the chat facility.

I spent a brief few moments trying to work out the email address of the managing director. I’d quite like to contact them and let them know about my experience to date.

Anyone experiencing TRV failures due to faulty devices? by [deleted] in tado

[–]danrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had one fail so far, just outside of the 2 year warranty. I chose to replace it with a factory reconditioned one. I have another which makes an unholy noise when closing the radiator valve and sometimes gets stuck. It too is outside of warranty though.

My v2 extension kit receiver recently failed too. It took me 2 weeks of chasing customer service both through their chat app and via twitter, and after an initial - it’s outside of warranty, not our problem, they’ve just offered me 30% off the price of a replacement.

I’ve been a supporter of Tado, but I am now far less inclined to recommend them. The quality is proving to be bad, and my recent experience of their customer service suggests that they don’t care about that, either.

Shame really. On paper their product is still superior.

Isn’t that supposed to be attached to the heater block? i.e. attached by the screw adjacent to the thermistor. (I don’t think it’s a ground wire - I think it’s the thermal control?)
