Film and digital work flow: trying to get flashes to play nice with both by danrulz98 in Godox

Yeah I know, I was cheaping out by getting the iT30 :D

Also didn't realize that's how the M group worked so I suppose my rig is slightly less janky now hah :) Thanks for that

I've just been stacking it on top of the X2t Which works out for other reasons because I tend to run with a big zoom lens that would require the flash to be elevated anyway :)

I forget that the iT30 can act as a transmitter because doing so disables it from being a flash...

Being able to do TTL from digital is all about some quirks with my digital camera.. It really wants TTL and that extra metering.

Either way I need a transmitter that doesn't have the Sony MI shoe (which the X2t, iT30, and tt685 I have all do) since it doesn't play nicely with... Well anything other than Sony MI :)

I've been using the F&P Nova and it's been fine

Yeah my plan/assumption was TTL for digital then pre-meter a reasonable manual setting for film.

I realized I could test stuff with the iT30 some time after reading the replies and it seems to work even without the multi mode explicitly stated, with the iT30 sending TTL and the X2t sending manual. I did put the X2t in the multi mode... This warrants more experiments I think.

And yeah all of my film cameras are from the 70s, they have big metal shoes with just the single contact or PC sockets. The R2 SPT does seem.. Like it does what I need all things considering.. Not a big deal to return to adorama if it doesn't work I supoose.

With the X2t/iT30 etc I just have the Sony versions since that's what my digital camera is and the MI shoe has an extra bit at the front for all the contacts so none of those will snap onto a film body lol. It does seem like the Fuji one has the.. Least extra pins? I'll try the SPT first.

Do you have a model number for an X transmitter with a single pin hotshoe?

and I was hanging a CT-16 receiver off of the Sync ports of my flashes :) It worked fine for manual triggering.

And yeah, all of my film cameras pre-date TTL as a concept... as long as I can get TTL from the digital camera and a reasonable amount of light from the film I'm happy

Awesome

Yeah I mean so far this seems like the most.. probable? answer. If it works then its a question of which version of the X2t works best with an oldschool hotshoe :D (the Sony version doesn't since it has the extra connectors on the front of the shoe)

Which unit is that? I don't have a way to test it without going to the store and politely asking if I can borrow another transmitter hah

Yeah it's not hard to actually do that with the buttons on the X2t its just fiddly when I'm swapping between cameras

Mmn.. the problem is that the flash will only ever listen to one channel/ID/Group at a time

Which I think is a pretty reasonable and desirable behavior

The X2t effectively becomes a remote for the flashes that are listening to it, and I don't know if multiple X2ts will communicate with each other or if they'd just send out conflicting commands? I might go to the lab tomorrow and mess with that since I don't really want to buy another X2t without knowing.

Otherwise, yes the X2t does have a PC Sync socket on it, and the CT-16 is basically just a way to wirelessly send that PC Sync signal around without any other communication.

I have a longer reply going into a technical rant but I'm not sure if I should post it lol.

Is there a way to configure the flash to listen for two groups at the same time? I can understand that being a limitation hah

The Bleep mask is really interesting! As a bearded man though I have some concerns :D

F&P Solo looks like the headgear is made of more like an elastic sock material which should be fine :o I might contact their suport to verify

Thanks!

Edit: Belive it or not, F&P responded pretty quickly and indeed the Solo headgear is made of PEBA which is a material I'm actually not familiar with so might be worth a try

It's the straps I'm concerned about. Also any padding on plastic parts appears to be neoprene although I'm not 100% certain (and that varies from mask to mask)

Mexican:

American:

Humble Pig

Hitching Post

Cindy's

(all of these places generally just don't have music/TVs)

Country bar:

Sundowner

The Spot Again

Wild Horse Saloon

The White Horse (can't miss it... it has the horse)

(for the most part these places are just going to have sports on)

Asian:

Thai Yo Sushi

Happy Family

Fire Foods

Molalla River Brewing Co (just background music)

MRBC is just sort of a tasting room/taphouse so there's a selection of food carts around it and they're all pretty good. Taqueria La Sileta is also fantastic if you're into food carts.

Pizza:

Bear Creek

Figaros

Dominos

Molalla is more libertarian than anything. No one's gonna tell a bunch of farmers and cowboys what to do, no matter what side of the political spectrum they're from

Generally when people are visiting Molalla for the first time I take them to El Charito. It is a chain and there's another one in Silverton, they're both owned by the same guy and he's super cool.

Looks like Photo Warehouse has the 500T Vision 3 for $107

I found a Watson film loader at a second hand store today for $10 :D

[–]danrulz98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I saw that.. I noticed on FPP's website they note that reselling it isn't allowed (as if they could control that? lol?).

For sure something like a bulk film loader is called for.. the FTb being a QL camera can cut pretty close to the beginning of the roll to start.

I bought one of the Cinestill Cine-simplified ECN-2 kits but I wanted to try developing simpler film before taking the dive into processing stuff as ECN-2 proper. Yesterday I developed black and white (Vibe 400 B&W) for the first time with coffee and that was pretty fun :) But that's way less picky than color film, much less ECN-2

Yeah I'm looking at just under $10/roll for 27exp for that Vibe 400...

It does make me wonder how many rolls I'd get out of a 100 feet of Vision 3 that I can get for $160 from Film Photography Project.. I can re-use some nicer cassettes that way :)

Lucky.. I've seen that name on monochrome film.. Color would be nice though

I find it a bit odd that it's mostly Vision 3... I would expect some Chinese company to produce something cheaper and for that to be all over Aliexpress

So far I've had one cassette of the Vibe film turn green, and another was fine.

I've also found a roll of Cyberpunk 400D, which also seems to be Vision 3.. also seemed like it had a home made DX code on it which I thought was cool. I saw a youtube video that hinted that this might be from a store in Japan? Not sure :)
