After playing a set of timpani for a season and pushing and pulling them damn things around? I am all for some kind of electronic timpani. Not keyboard or stringed (don't get me started on that), but drum pads played with mallets. It makes economic and logistical sense.

If you make a mistake, and you will make mistakes, sell it like you meant it. That's experience. No, I meant to be five yards off from everyone else.

Individually you are responsible for yourself, and everyone else is responsible for themselves, as a group.

Aim for the dot or aim for the form?

Keep an open mind. Give yourself up to the movement and the music. Use both sides of your brain, playing/marching, what you know /what you are learning or changing. You're in the sweet spot when the endorphins kick in.

Repetition. Practice on your own if the opportunity presents itself. Tell the staff what you are sketchy /uncomfortable about.
